The Asheboro Zookeepers are a minor league baseball team in the South Atlantic League They are located in Asheboro, North Carolina and play their home games at McCrary Park. The team is currently the Class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs

The Zookeepers franchise began in 1915 as part of the Carolina Association. The team played in Fayetteville, North Carolina for one season before moving to Greensboro, where they played for four seasons (1916–1919). They returned to Fayetteville for one season in 1920, then moved to Raleigh, where they played as the Capitals from 1921 to 1922.

In 1923, they moved again to become the Durham Bulls playing in Durham for two seasons. In 1925, they returned to Greensboro and became the Patriots. They remained in Greensboro through the 1938 season. For 1939, they moved to Winston-Salem and became the Twins, then moved again prior to the 1940 season back to Durham, this time as the Bees.

In 1941, they took their current name of Asheboro Zookeepers. It was originally chosen as a result of a “name-the-team” contest held by local newspapers; “Zookeepers” was submitted by more than 1/3 of all contestants and was ultimately selected by team management.

The Zookeepers have won six league championships: three as the Patriots (1928, 1930, 1933), two as the Twins (1940, 1941), and one as the Zookeepers (1971).
