Auburn, Ala.- The Auburn Athletics Department released the following statement Saturday afternoon concerning an injury to one of its men’s basketball players
“One of our student-athletes sustained a serious injury this morning. He is currently being treated at a local hospital. We do not have any further information at this time and will provide updates as we learn more.”
The player
Auburn menufffds basketball player Samir Doughty is out for the remainder of the season with a stress fracture in his left foot, the school announced Thursday.

Doughty, a 6-foot-4 guard, averaged 15.3 points and 3.8 assists per game while starting all 30 games for the Tigers this season. He was named second-team All-SEC by the leagueufffds coaches Tuesday.
Auburn (25-5, 14-2 SEC) is currently tied with Tennessee atop the Conference Standings and is scheduled to play its final regular season game Saturday against Alabama.
The impact
The Auburn men’s basketball team will be without one of its Top Players for the remainder of the season.
Auburn Athletics announced on Tuesday that Anfernee McLemore has suffered a left ankle injury and will miss the remainder of the season.
“This is obviously a tough break for Anfernee and our team,” head coach Bruce Pearl said in a statement. “He has been a big part of our success this season, and we are all heartbroken for him.”
The loss of McLemore is a significant blow to Auburn’s chances in the postseason. The Tigers are currently 19-9 overall and 10-5 in SEC play. They are tied for fourth place in the conference standings and are projected to be a No. 5 or No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament
McLemore, a 6-foot-7 forward, is averaging 11.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game this season. He is one of the best shot blockers in the country and his presence will be missed on both ends of the floor.
Auburn will have to rely on its other players to step up in McLemore’s absence. The Tigers have a solid core of players that includes Bryce Brown Mustapha Heron, Desean Murray and Horace Spencer
The recovery
On Monday the Auburn Basketball team released a statement on the injury of Starting Center Anfernee McLemore. The statement said that McLemore had successful surgery on Sunday to repair a dislocated ankle and fractured tibia he suffered in Saturday’s game against South Carolina The surgery was performed by team physician Dr. Michael Goodlett and Dr. James Andrews assisted.
“Anfernee’s surgery went well, and we are all thankful,” Head Coach Bruce Pearl said in the statement. “Now we have to begin the process of helping him get back, which starts with his recovery.”
Auburn will not have McLemore available for the remainder of the season, including the SEC tournament and NCAA tournament if the Tigers are able to qualify.

The Tigers (26-9) were seeded fifth in the Midwest Region and lost 79-72 to the fourth-seeded Tar Heels (29-7).
It was a disappointing end to what had been a promising season for Auburn, which won the Eastern Conference regular season title for the first time since 1999. The Tigers also won their first SEC Tournament championship since 1985.

The Tigers were without leading scorer Bryce Brown, who missed the game with a sprained ankle Pearl said Brown was ufffdguttedufffd by the injury and wanted to play, but Pearl said he didnufffdt want to risk further injury.
Without Brown, Auburn struggled to score against North Carolinaufffds tough defense. The Tigers shot just 35 percent from the field and made only six of 25 3-point attempts.
