The game was tightly contested early on, with neither team leading by more than four points in the first half. UMass began to pull away late in the second half, however, outscoring Hartford 20-10 in the final six minutes of the game.

Pipkins was one of four Minutemen players to score in double figures, as sophomore guard Noah Kirkwood added 16 points, junior forward Malik Hines chipped in 13, and freshman forward AJ Wilson had 11. UMass also got strong contributions from its bench, with reserves scoring 32 points.
