The Academy was founded in 2006 by MLB veteran Edgar Clemente Jr. and his wife, Sheila. It is located on 20 acres of land and has two baseball diamonds, four batting cages, a weight room, classrooms, and dormitories.

PRBA’s goal is to provide its students with the necessary tools to succeed both on and off the field. The Academy offers a comprehensive training program that includes daily individualized instruction, classroom lectures, video analysis, and Strength and Conditioning workouts. In addition to their athletic development, PRBA students also receive academic tutoring and guidance so that they can earn their high school diploma or GED.

Since its inception, the Academy has seen great success. To date, PRBA has had 19 alumni drafted by MLB teams and over 50% of its graduates have gone on to play college baseball In 2015, the Academy was named one of the top high school programs in Puerto Rico by Baseball America
