The Myrtle Beach Pelicans the Advanced-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs are pleased to announce that the team will be renamed the Myrtle beach baseball Nationals for the 2020 season. The transition is a result of a long-term partnership between Minor League Baseball Major League Baseball and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans organization.
Why the Baseball Nationals are Coming to Myrtle Beach
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Advanced-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves are moving up to Double-A and will become the Carolina League affiliate of the Washington Nationals starting in 2020. The move means that the Nationals will have their High-A affiliate playing just a few hours away from their spring training facility in West Palm Beach Florida.
The Nationals have been looking for a way to get their minor league affiliates closer to their Spring Training facility and When the Houston Astros moved their Spring Training operations from Kissimmee to West Palm Beach in 2017, the Nationals saw an opportunity. The Astros had been using Osceola County Stadium as their Spring Training home since 1985, and the Nationals were able to purchase the facility for $6.5 million in 2018.
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are currently owned by Bruce Sherman, who also owns the Miami Marlins

The Baseball Nationals are coming to Myrtle Beach! The highly anticipated arrival of the baseball team has finally been announced, and fans are already planning their trips to see the games.
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Minor League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs will be playing their home games at the newly constructed ballpark in North Myrtle Beach The ballpark is scheduled to open in April 2020, just in time for the start of the baseball season
Tickets for the games will go on sale soon, and fans are advised to purchase them early. The first game is scheduled for April 10th, 2020, and will be played against the Durham Bulls

The new facility will be located adjacent to Pelican Stadium and will include:
– Six (6) Full Size Baseball fields
– Locker rooms
– Training facilities

The Washington Nationals are an American professional Baseball Team based in Washington, D.C. The Nationals compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) East division. From 2005 to 2007, the team played in RFK Stadium while their permanent stadium, Nationals Park was being built. In 2008, they moved in to Nationals Park, located on South Capitol Street in Southeast D.C., near the Anacostia River.

The announcement was made official by Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein during a press conference at Wrigley Field on Thursday morning.
“We are thrilled to announce that the Myrtle Beach Pelicans will become the Myrtle Beach Nationals starting in 2020,” Epstein said. “This is a community that has been incredibly welcoming to us, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with the city and its fans for many years to come.”
Myrtle Beach has been home to a minor league baseball team since 1963, and the Cubs have been affiliated with the Pelicans since 1999. The Pelicans have won five Carolina League championships, most recently in 2015.

You can also fly into the Florence Regional Airport (FLO), which is about an hour’s drive from Myrtle Beach, or the Charleston International Airport (CHS), which is about two hours’ drive from Myrtle Beach.
