The conference tournament will be the deciding factor for who goes to the NCAA Tournament

The College Basketball season is coming to a close and the conference tournaments are just around the corner. These tournaments are crucial for teams on the bubble for the NCAA tournament The Big West is no different, as there are several teams that could make a case for an at-large bid. But, with only one team getting an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament it is likely that the conference tournament will decide who goes dancing in March.

Here is a look at the current standings in the Big West and what each team needs to do to secure a spot in the NCAA tournament

1. UC Irvine Anteaters (23-6, 12-3 Big West)
-The Anteaters have clinched a share of the regular season title and will be the top seed in the Conference Tournament They have also all but locked up an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament UC Irvine just needs to avoid a complete collapse in the conference tournament to punch their ticket to March Madness

2. Cal State Fullerton Titans (20-9, 10-5 Big West)
-The Titans have put together a strong season and are in good position to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament However, they can not afford to lose their first game in the Conference tournament A loss would put their fate in the hands of other bubble teams around the country and that is not a desirable position to be in come Selection Sunday.

3&4. UC Riverside Highlanders & Long Beach State 49ers (18-11, 9-6 Big West) -These two teams are tied for third place in the conference and will be facing each other on Saturday night in Long Beach The winner of that game will most likely earn the third seed in next week’s conference tournament and avoid playing UC Irvine until at least the semifinals. The loser will likely fall to fifth place and have to play UC Irvine in Quarterfinals on Thursday night Needless to say, this is a huge game for both teams’ NCAA tournament hopes as they try to avoid playing UC Irvine as long as possible
