Introducing the Long Beach State baseball roster for the Upcoming Season

The Long Beach State Dirtbags are set to begin their 2020 season on February 14th against theUniversity of San Diego The team is coming off a 2019 season in which they went 30-27 overall and 20-10 in conference play They will be looking to build on that success this year with a talented group of returners and newcomers.

Head coach Troy Buckley will enter his sixth season at the helm of the Dirtbags. He will be looking to lead the team to their first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2008. Buckley has compiled a record of 155-170 during his time at Long Beach State

The 2020 roster is highlighted by a number of talented seniors who will be looking to finish their collegiate careers on a high note. Outfielder Jarren Duran is one of the top prospects in all of college baseball and is expected to be drafted in the early rounds of this year’s MLB Draft Also returning are pitcher Zach Pettway, infielder DillonPaulson, and catcher Luke Rasmussen.

The Dirtbags have also added a number of talented newcomers who should make an immediate impact. Freshman infielder David Banuelos was ranked as one of the top 100 prospects in last year’s High School class by Baseball America He will be joined by fellow freshman pitchers Canaan Severin and Michael Plassmeyer, who were both highly ranked recruits coming out of high school

The Long Beach State Baseball Team is gearing up for another season of competition and there are some new faces on the roster. Here is a look at the infielders who will be representing the Beach this season.

Freshman second baseman Chase Maddux is from San Juan Capistrano, California and attended JSerra Catholic high school He was a four-year varsity starter and was named First Team All-Trinity League as a senior. He helped lead his team to the CIF Division 1 semifinals in 2018.

Third baseman Ty Provencher is also a freshman, hailing from Vancouver, Washington. He played his high school ball at Heritage high school where he was a three-time All-League selection. As a senior, he hit .397 with four home runs and 26 RBIs. He was also named All-State Honorable Mention.

Junior first baseman Luke Marszalek comes to Long Beach State from Thousand Oaks California where he attended Thousand Oaks high school He was a four-year varsity starter and was named First Team All-Marmonte League as a junior and senior. He hit .290 with four home runs and 20 RBIs as a junior.

Junior transfer shortstop Ryan Hill will be in his first season with the Beach after transferring from Citrus College. A native of Covina, California, Hill hit .337 with five home runs and 27 RBIs in 2018 while also stealing 18 bases. He was named First Team All-Conference as well as Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Sophomore second baseman Reese Alexiades rounds out the infielders on the roster. He is from Huntington Beach, California and attended Marina high school where he was a three-time All-League selection. As a senior, he hit .362 with 19 RBIs.

Get to Know the Outfielders

The Long Beach State Dirtbags baseball team will have a new look in the outfield this season with the departure of three starters from last year’s team.

Returning to the outfield is junior transfer Jordan Qsar, who played his freshman season at Cypress College before coming to Long Beach State Qsar will be joined by sophomoreLuke Rasmussen and junior college transfer Daniel Jackson.

Rasmussen returns to the Dirtbags after a standout freshman campaign in which he batted .296 with four Home Runs and 28 RBIs. Jackson comes to Long Beach State after two years at Orange Coast College, where he hit .333 with four home runs and 30 RBIs last season.

Get to Know the Catchers

This season, the Long Beach State baseball team will have three catchers on its roster. They are seniors Luke Rasmussen and David Banuelos, and junior Austin Bush. Here is a closer look at each of these student-athletes.

Rasmussen, who is from Huntington Beach, California, is a business finance major. He is a two-time Golden Spikes Award semifinalist and was named the 2017 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association District 9 Player of the Year. In his junior season, Rasmussen hit .351 with 15 home runs and 51 RBIs.

Banuelos, from Torrance, California, is also a business finance major. He was named a third-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball News in 2017 after hitting .316 with 10 home runs and 54 RBIs. Banuelos has also been named a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist and a Brooks Wallace Award finalist.

Bush, from San Diego California, is majoring in kinesiology. He played in 37 games as a sophomore and hit .273 with one home run and 11 RBIs.

The Long Beach State Baseball Team is gearing up for another exciting season and we want you to get to know the roster. In this article, we’ll be introducing you to the pitchers who will be taking the mound for the Beach this year.

Returners

Tyler Radcliffe – Radcliffe is a left-handed pitcher who is entering his senior year with the Beach. He appeared in 15 games last season, making five starts. He had a 3-2 record with a 5.74 ERA.

Blake Johnson – Johnson is a right-handed pitcher who is also entering his senior year. He appeared in 24 games last season, making eight starts. He had a 5-3 record with a 4.44 ERA.

Newcomers

Brady Rodriguez – Rodriguez is a transfer from Riverside City College where he was named the 2018 Pitcher of the Year in the Orange Empire Conference He was 10-1 with a 2.48 ERA last season.

Jackson Rees – Rees comes to Long Beach State from Saddleback College where he was named first team All-Orange Empire Conference as a sophomore after going 10-2 with a 2.48 ERA.

This year, the Long Beach State 49ers will be looking to build on their successful 2018 campaign, which saw the team win the Big West conference title and earn a spot in the NCAA Regional Tournament
