Bill Laimbeer was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on September 17, 1957. He played youth basketball in the Boston metropolitan area and attended High School at Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts. Laimbeer played collegiately at Notre Dame from 1976 to 1979. As a rookie with the Cleveland Cavaliers he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Laimbeer became a fan favorite in Detroit during his 14-year career with the Pistons. He helped lead the Pistons to back-to-back NBA championships in 1989 and 1990. Laimbeer was known for his physical play and was one of the league’s most notorious bad boys He was voted one of the NBA’s Top 50 players of all time by ESPN in 1996. After retiring from playing in 1993, Laimbeer transitioned into coaching. He coached the Detroit Shock of the WNBA for eight seasons and led them to three championships. Laimbeer has also been a Head Coach in China and an Assistant Coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves of the NBA.
