Carlos Santana (born April 8, 1986) is an American professional baseball first baseman and designated hitter for the Cleveland Indians of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2010, and also played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners

Santana was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic He was signed by the Dodgers as an international free agent in 2004. Santana made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast Dodgers before being promoted to the Ogden Raptors of the Rookie-level Pioneer League Through 2009, he played in Minor League Baseball for the Great Lakes Loons Inland Empire 66ers, Jacksonville Suns, Chattanooga Lookouts and Albuquerque Isotopes.

Santana was traded to the Cleveland Indians in December 2008. He batted .260 with 26 home runs and 76 RBIs for the Columbus Clippers of the Class AAA National League in 2010 before he was called up to Cleveland that September. In 2011, he switched from catcher to third base due to injuries on the Indians roster. Santana was born in Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco, Mexico. He grew up in Tijuana and grew up a fan of the San Diego Padres As a young child, Santana’s favorite player was Tony Gwynn Carlos has three brothers, Bryan, Jorge and Francisco. All four of them were involved in baseball growing up. Bryan played in the Major Leagues for the Montreal Expos and Chicago Cubs Jorge is currently a minor league baseball coach in the Chicago White Sox organization. Francisco played baseball at San Bernardino Valley College.

Santana’s father, Julio, was also supportive of his sons’ Involvement in Baseball and would often take them to play in local tournaments. Carlos began playing organized baseball when he was eight years old. He played infield and pitched for his first team called the Eagles of Educational technicians of Tijuana. When he turned 12, Santana started playing for the Autlán de Navarro Little League team which won the Mexican Little League Championship
