As a senior, he averaged 19.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game and was named the Big West Conference Player of the Year. He finished his career as UCSB’s all-time leader in three-point field goals made (308) and attempted (863).
Jans was not drafted by an NBA team but he did latch on with the Los Angeles Lakers for a brief time, appearing in two games during the 2004-05 season. He then spent several years playing professionally in Europe and Asia before returning to the United States to pursue a coaching career.
He got his start as an Assistant Coach at his alma mater, UC Santa Barbara before moving on to assistant coaching jobs at Texas Tech University Iowa State University and Wichita State University. In April 2017, he was named the head men’s basketball coach at Bowling Green State University
