In recent years the Clarkson Cup has become one of the most prestigious trophies in college hockey The Cup is awarded to the winner of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I women’s Ice Hockey tournament.
The Clarkson Cup is named after former Clarkson University women’s Ice hockey coach Margaret “Muffy” Dangerfield. Coach Dangerfield led the Golden Knights to five NCAA Division I National Championships six ECAC regular season titles, and seven ECAC tournament championships.
The Cup was first awarded in 2005, and since then has been won by teams from all across the United States The University of Wisconsin-Madison has won the Cup a record four times, followed by the University of Minnesota with three wins. After a disappointing 2015-2016 season, in which the team finished with a record of 8-22-4, the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team rebounded in a big way in the 2016-2017 season. The team finished with a record of 23-10-3, good for second place in the ECAC standings. The team also made it to the semifinals of the ECAC tournament, ultimately losing to eventual champion Clarkson University.

Offensively, the Golden Knights are led by senior forwards Cayley Mercer and Jaime Lee Rattray. Both players are dangerous goal-scorers who have had a great deal of success at the collegiate level. With their experience and leadership, Clarkson will look to Rattray and Mercer to provide an offensive spark this season.
