The Lotte Baseball Scene

Baseball in Charlotte has a rich history, dating back to the nineteenth century The Charlotte Hornets were one of the first professional baseball teams in the city, playing their first game in 1885. Today, Charlotte is home to two professional minor League Baseball teams: the Charlotte Knights and the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

The Charlotte Knights are a AAA minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox The team plays its home games at BB&T Ballpark, located in Uptown Charlotte. The Stone Crabs are a Class A-Advanced Minor League affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays The team plays its home games at NorthEast Regional Park, located in northeast Mecklenburg County.

The Charlotte Knights

The Charlotte Knights are a minor league baseball team in Charlotte, North Carolina The Knights play in the National League and are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox of the American League The Knights are owned by Don Beaver and David Droschak and their home games are played at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte’s Third Ward.

The Charlotte Stone Crabs

The Charlotte Stone Crabs are a baseball team based in Port Charlotte, Florida. The Stone Crabs are the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays and play in the Florida State League. The team is named for the stone crab, a popular seafood dish found in West Florida

History
The Charlotte Stone Crabs were founded in 2009 and began play in 2010. The team played its first game on April 8, 2010, against the Tampa Yankees, which they won 7-3. The Stone Crabs won their first Florida State League Championship in 2013.

Roster
The Charlotte Stone Crabs roster is made up of 26 players. These include outfielders Andrew Velazquez and Bralin Jackson, infielders Kevin Padlo and Vidal Brujan, catcher Francisco Mejia, and pitchers Luis Patino and Josh Fleming.

Manager Charlie Montoyo led the Charlotte Stone Crabs to their first Florida State League championship in 2013.

The Kannapolis Intimidators

CLT Baseball is your home for Charlotte baseball. The Charlotte Knights, the Chicago White Sox Triple-A affiliate, play their home games at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte. The Kannapolis Intimidators, the Chicago White Sox Low-A affiliate, play their Home Games at INTIMIDATORS Stadium in Kannapolis.

The Winston-Salem Dash

The Winston-Salem Dash are a Minor League Baseball team in Winston-Salem, North Carolina They are a Class A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox and play in the Carolina League The Dash began play in 2009 as the High Point/Thomasville HiToms. The team’s name is a reference to the history of textile and furniture manufacturing in the Piedmont Triad region, which includes Winston-Salem. The “Dash” refers to a specific kind of embroidery stitch. Their home ballpark is BB&T Ballpark, which opened in 2010 and seats 5,500 people.

In 2017, minor league baseball announced that Winston-Salem would host the 2019 All-Star game This will be the first time that the city has hosted an All-Star Game since 1962, when the then-Winston-Salem Cardinals (now known as the St. Louis Cardinals) hosted an exhibition game against an All-Star team from Nashville.

The Greensboro Grasshoppers

The Greensboro Grasshoppers are a professional Baseball Team in Greensboro, North Carolina that plays in the South Atlantic League The team is the Class A affiliate of the Miami Marlins They play their home games at First National Bank Field. The Grasshoppers were established in 1960 and have won five league championships, most recently in 2019.

The Asheville Tourists

Asheville, NC – The Asheville Tourists are a minor league baseball team that plays in the South Atlantic League. The Tourists are the Class A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies The team is named for the many tourists who visit Asheville and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains each year.

The Tourists play their home games at McCormick Field, which opened in 1924 and is located in downtown Asheville. The park has a capacity of 4,000 fans and features a 360-degree concourse that allows fans to walk around the entire ballpark.

The team is owned by Dewey destinations, and their mascot is an anthropomorphized mountain lion named Toby.

The Hickory Crawdads

The Hickory Crawdads are a Minor League baseball team in the South Atlantic League. They are the Low-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers and play their home games at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory, North Carolina

The team was founded in 1993 as the Charleston Alley Cats, and moved to Hickory in 2009 after spending 16 seasons in Charleston, South Carolina The Crawdads were previously known as theSwamp Dragons (1993–2000) and the RiverDogs (2001–2008).

In 2017, the Crawdads won their first SAL Championship, defeating the Lexington Legends three games to one in the best-of-five series.

As the home of the Charlotte Knights, the AAA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox Charlotte is a hotbed for Minor League Baseball But we don’t stop there. We also cover the Charlotte Stone Crabs, the A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays and the Asheville Tourists the A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies

And of course, we can’t forget about our local colleges. The Charlotte 49ers have a storied history, dating back to their days as a Division II power house. Today, they compete in Conference USA and are always a force to be reckoned with. And don’t forget about UNC-Charlotte’s club team. They may not have varsity status, but they are one of the top club teams in the country and always give the 49ers a run for their money.
