“We talked at halftime about how we needed to come out with more energy in the second half, and that’s what we did,” Grant said. “We were able to get some stops and make some shots, and that was the difference in the game.”

Coppin State was led by senior guard Dejuan Clayton, who scored 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field. Junior forward Koby Thomas added 15 points and eight rebounds, and freshman guard Taemar college had 10 points off the bench.

UMBC was led by senior guard Arkel Lamar, who scored 18 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field. Freshman forward Brandon Horvath added 17 points and eight rebounds for the Retrievers.
