Introduction

The 2019-2020 Season is finally upon us and that means it’s time to start getting to know your Denver Pioneers Hockey Team This year’s roster is packed with fresh talent and promising veterans, so let’s take a look at who will be representing the Pioneers on the ice this season.

Forwards

Dylan Gambrell – Senior
Gambrell is entering his senior season as one of the Pioneers’ most experienced forwards. He’s a versatile player who can contribute offensively and defensively, and he’ll be looked to as a leader on and off the ice.

Cole Guttman – Sophomore

2019-2020 Roster

The 2019-2020 Denver Pioneers Hockey Team is made up of student athletes who have dedicated their time and effort to becoming some of the best Hockey Players in the country. These young men come from all over North America and Europe, and each one has a unique story to tell.

This year’s team is once again led by Head Coach David Carle, who is entering his seventh season at the helm of the Pioneers. Under Carle’s direction, the Pioneers have won two NCAA National Championships and have made six appearances in the Frozen Four.

The 2019-2020 roster features four seniors, eight juniors, four sophomores, and three freshmen. forwards Dylan Gambrell (Sr.), Graham Knott (Sr.), Colin Staub (Sr.), and Kohen Olischefski (Jr.) will serve as team captains this season.

Defensemen

The Pioneers will have a young and inexperienced defensive corps in 2019-2020, with only three returning players. head coach David Carle will be looking to his freshmen and sophomores to step up and fill the void left by the graduation of All-American Will Butcher.

Sophomore Ian Mitchell will be one of the leaders of the unit, after a solid rookie campaign in which he tallied six goals and 19 points in 41 games. He will be joined by junior Tariq Hammond and sophomore Drew Melanson as the only three players with significant Division I experience.

The Pioneers will rely heavily on their freshmen defensemen, with at least five players expected to see regular playing time Cole Guttman, Mattias Andresen, Michael Davies, Slava Demin, and Nate Hoffman all come to Denver with high pedigrees, and will be counted on to make an immediate impact.

Goaltenders

Goaltenders are the backbone of any successful Hockey team They are the last line of defense and often the difference between a win and a loss. The Denver Pioneers are lucky to have two great goaltenders on their roster this season.

Sophomore Filip Larsson is back after a promising freshman campaign in which he posted a .932 save percentage and a 2.00 GAA. He is the clear starter for the Pioneers and will be counted on to carry the team in big moments.

Freshman Magnus Chrona was brought in to add depth and competition at the goaltending position. He is a big body with good athleticism and raw talent He will likely see some time in net this season, but his main focus will be development for the future.

The Pioneers finished the regular season with a record of 25-9-2, good for second place in the National Collegiate Hockey conference (NCHC). They went on to win the NCHC tournament, defeating St. Cloud State in the semifinals and North Dakota in the finals.

##Expansion: The type of coffee you use, how much you use, the grind, how hot the water is, how long to steep, what type of device you use to brew, all affect the final cup of coffee. Below are some brewing methods along with general tips to help make your cup of coffee perfect every time!

--Drip Coffee – This is the most common way to brew coffee at home or in most coffee shops. All you need is filter paper, freshly ground coffee beans, a pitcher or carafe for storing hot water and a method for heating water -– either an electric kettle or stovetop pot will do. Place about 2 tablespoons of ground coffee for every 6 ounces of water into your filter, then pour hot water over the grounds until they’re fully saturated. Allow the coffee to drip through into your carafe or pitcher; this should take about 4 minutes total.

--French Press – A French press is a tall cylinder with a plunger and mesh screen on top; it looks like a tall beaker with a lid. To make coffee using a French press, add coarsely ground beans (a little finer than those used for drip coffee) to the bottom of the press along with hot water. Stir gently, then place the lid on top without pressing down on the plunger. After about 3–4 minutes, slowly depress the plunger until it reaches the bottom of the press; this will trap the grounds at the bottom so they don’t end up in your cup. Pour slowly to avoid stirring up the grounds; if possible, decant into another vessel such as a carafe or mug so you don’t have to pour directly from the press itself

--Pour Over – Pour over is very similar to drip coffee; however, you have more control over factors such as grind size, brewing time, and water temperature when using this method . You’ll need a conical paper filter that fits into your chosen brewing device –– these can usually be found where drip coffee makers are sold –– as well as freshly ground beans and hot water . To brew using a pour over method , first wet your filter with hot water to rinse it and preheat your mug or carafe . Next , add grounds to your filter ; we recommend starting with 2 tablespoons per 6 ounces of water . Slowly pour just enough hot water over the grounds to saturate them , then wait 30 seconds for them to “bloom ” (expand slightly and release gases). Once blooming is complete , continue adding hot water in a slow , steady stream until your desired volume is reached . Depending on factors such as grind size , bean variety , and personal preferences , brewing time should take between 2 – 4 minutes .
