East Coweta Basketball: A Team on the Rise- Section 1
Since Coach Harrelson took over the varsity boys Basketball Program at East Coweta High School four years ago, the team has seen a steady climb in their win-loss record.
In his first year, the team went 10-16. The next year they improved to 13-13. The following year they went 16-11. And this past season they went 21-6.
What’s behind the improvement? “It’s a combination of things,” says Coach Harrelson. “We’ve had some very good players come through the program in the last few years. But I also think it’s been a matter of our guys buying into what we’re trying to do as a program and working hard to get better every day.”
The fruits of those efforts were on display this past season as the team won their first regional championship since 2005 and advanced to the State Tournament for the first time since 2009.

Under the direction of Head Coach Troy McBride, the Indians have compiled a record of 19-4 so far this season. The team’s success is due in large part to the play of its two senior stars, guard Trey Brown and forward Jordon Greene.
Brown, who has signed to play at Appalachian State University is averaging 18 points per game Greene, who has been receiving interest from several Division I schools, is averaging a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds per contest.
The Indians will look to continue their success in the postseason, which begins next week. With Brown and Greene leading the way, East Coweta has a realistic chance of winning it all.

The East Coweta high school basketball team is on the rise. After a strong showing in the 2018-2019 season, the team is ready to take their game to the next level. With a core group of returning players and some new additions, East Coweta is looking to make noise in the playoffs.
Led by head coach Tony Gray, the team has been working hard in the off-season to prepare for the upcoming season Coach Gray believes that his team has what it takes to make a run at the state title.
The returning players include seniors Jaden Johnson and Malik Newman Johnson is a 6’3” guard who was named first team all-region last season. Newman is a 6’6” forward who averaged a double-double last season. They will be joined by junior guard Jaylen Brown and sophomore forward Jaheim Oatis. Brown is a transfer from Newnan high school who averaged 15 points per game last season. Oatis is a 6’8” forward who showed promise last season as a freshman.
The new additions to the team are freshmen guards Kobe Brown and Jalen Davenport. Both players have shown tremendous potential in the pre-season and are expected to make an immediate impact on the court.

East Coweta High School’s boys basketball team is on the rise. The Indians finished the regular season with a 16-8 record and are currently ranked No. 9 in the state in Class AAAAA by MaxPreps.
East Coweta is led by senior guard Kobe McCullough, who is averaging 19 points, four rebounds and three assists per game McCullough has been one of the most consistent players for the Indians all season long and has been a big reason why they have been one of the most improved teams in the state.
Along with McCullough, East Coweta has gotten strong production from junior forward Jaylin Powell (12 points, eight rebounds per game) and senior guard Tyler Washington (11 points, five rebounds, three assists per game).
The Indians will be looking to continue their strong play when they take on KIPP Atlanta Collegiate in the first round of the state playoffs on Tuesday night.
