The Furman Basketball team is looking to start the season off strong and they have a very talented roster. Here is a quick introduction to some of the Key Players that will be leading the team this season.
senior Haydn Marks is the starting point guard and one of the leaders on the team. Marks is a very talented player and has a lot of experience playing at a high level. He is averaging 11 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds per game so far this season.
Junior shooting guard Jordan Miller is another one of the key players on the Furman basketball team Miller is an excellent shooter and has a great ability to score the ball. He is averaging 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist per game so far this season.
Forward Clay Mounce is another important player on the team. Mounce is a very versatile player who can score, rebound, and play defense at a high level. He is averaging 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists per game so far this season.
Center Matt Rafferty is the final key player on the team. Rafferty is one of the best big men in the country and he brings a lot of energy to the court. He is averaging 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game so far this season.

Grier was the starting point guard for Furman University’s Basketball team He was known for his great shooting and dribbling skills. Grier was also a very good Defensive Player He was one of the team’s best players, and he helped the team win many games.
#2: Johnson, the Playmaker
With his quick hands and sharp mind for the game, Jalen Johnson has quickly become one of the most important players on the Furman basketball team The junior guard is averaging 11.5 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game this season, and his coach says he is “the Heart and Soul of our team.”
Johnson grew up in Greenville, SC and played his High School basketball at J.L. Mann high school He was a three-time All-State selection and led his team to the state championship game as a senior. He then went on to play two years of college basketball at USC Upstate before transferring to Furman.
At 6’1″, Johnson is not the biggest player on the court, but he more than makes up for it with his speed, quickness, and Court Vision He is constantly causing problems for opposing teams with his deft passing and ability to penetrate defenses. He is also an excellent free throw shooter, something that has come in handy late in close games.
There is no question that Johnson is one of the most talented players on Furman’s roster, but what sets him apart from the rest is his competitiveness and drive to win. His teammates say he hates to lose more than anyone else on the team, and that competitive fire has helped Furman to a 14-4 record this season (as of 1/31/20).
So far this year, Johnson has been named Southern Conference Player of the Week twice (11/18/19 & 1/6/20) and was recently named Mid-Major Player of the Week by CBS Sports (1/27/20). He was also named to the Bob Cousy Award watch list earlier this season, an award given annually to the nation’s top point guard With two years of eligibility remaining, there is no telling how far Johnson will take his game or how much success he will help Furman achieve in the coming years.
#3: Anderson, the Enforcer
Anderson, the Enforcer is one of the starting players on the Furman University Men’s basketball team He is a 6’8″, 250-pound Power Forward who is known for his tough defense and rebounding ability. Anderson is a senior from Greenville, South Carolina
#4: Richards, the Shooter
Junior guard Trey Richards is one of the best shooters in the Southern Conference A native of Greenville, South Carolina Richards came to Furman as a transfer from USC Upstate In his first season with the Paladins, Richards averaged 12.5 points per game and shot 42.4% from three-point range which was good for second in the conference.
Richards is known for his quick release and his ability to knock down shots from anywhere on the court. He has a strong work ethic and is always working to improve his game. Richards is a key part of Furman’s offense and will be looking to make a big impact again this season.
#5: Brown, the Rebounder
Brown is a 6’7”, 235-pound center who hails from Charlotte, North Carolina He played his high school basketball at Christ School, where he was ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 38 player in the Class of 2018 by ESPN.com. Brown was also a McDonald’s All-American nominee. As a senior, he averaged 18.1 points, 14.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game.
In his first season at Furman, Brown appeared in 32 games and made 27 starts. He averaged 5.6 points and 4.9 rebounds in 16.8 minutes per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 63 percent from the Foul Line Brown’s best game came in Furman’s regular season finale at Samford on February 27, when he scored 12 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in 25 minutes of action to help the Paladins to a 73-68 victory.
#6: Hardy, the Sixth Man
Fans of the Furman men’s basketball team might not know much about the team’s sixth man freshman guard Noah Hardy. Hardy, who is from Acworth, Georgia, is averaging 4.8 points and 1.6 rebounds per game this season.
Hardy began his basketball career at Kennesaw Mountain High School where he played for four years. As a senior, he averaged 15.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 41 percent from three-point range. Hardy was named honorable mention all-state and was a member of the 2019 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Super Southern 100 team.
After graduating from high school Hardy attended Hargrave Military Academy for one year before enrolling at Furman. At Hargrave, Hardy helped lead his team to a 27-5 record and an appearance in the National Prep Championships. He averaged 12 points, four rebounds and two assists per game while shooting 42 percent from three-point range.
Hardy has been a key player off the bench for Furman this season, providing a spark on both Offense and defense He is currently third on the team in Three-point shooting percentage (39%), and he has also shown a willingness to take on tough defensive assignments against some of the opposition’s top scorers
If Hardy can continue to develop his all-around game, he could be in line for an increased role next season as the Paladins look to build on their successful 2019-20 campaign.
#7: Hill, the Energizer
Jordan Hill is a 6’7” redshirt junior from Rockingham, North Carolina He transferred to Furman from Louisburg College in the fall of 2016. In his first season with the Paladins, Hill averaged 12.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while shooting 54.7 percent from the field and 80.8 percent at the Free Throw Line Hill scored in double figures 21 times and tallied a season-high 25 points against VMI on February 11, 2017. Prior to his arrival at Furman, he was named First Team All-Region X and Second Team All-State by the NC JUCO Coaches Association after averaging 16.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Louisburg College in 2015-16.
#8: White, the Floor General
Desmond White is a 6-foot, 170-pound true point guard from Charlotte, N.C. who originally signed with the Paladins in November of 2016.
As a freshman in 2017-18, White averaged 5.4 points, 2.2 assists and 1.9 rebounds while playing in all 30 of Furman’s games and making 13 starts. He also shot 41.5% from 3-point range, connecting on 33-of-80 attempts, to rank second on the team in 3-point percentage. Additionally, he tallied 17 steals and 20 blocks while logging 546 minutes on the year.
White enjoyed his best outing as a Paladin against Appalachian State on December 30 when he dished out a career high eight assists to go with eight points in Furman’s 74-69 win over the Mountaineers at Timmons Arena.
