Introduction
The Furman Paladins men’s basketball team is a Division I college Basketball team that competes in the Southern Conference The Paladins are currently coached by Bob Richey and play their home games at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina
History
Furman University’s men’s basketball team has a long and storied history, dating back to the early days of the sport. The Paladins have competed in the NCAA Division I tournament 19 times, including four trips to the Sweet Sixteen They have also won three Southern conference championships and made two appearances in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
The Paladins have had some Great players over the years, including Hall of Famer Frank Selvy, who is still Furman’s All-time leading scorer. Other notable alumni include NBA players Andrew Bogut and Chris Whitney
The Paladins are currently coached by Bob Richey, who is in his second season at the helm. The team is looking to make another run at the NCAA tournament this year, and with a strong core of returning players, they have a good chance at making some noise in March.

Roster
The Paladins have a deep and experienced roster for the 18-19 season head coach Bob Richey returns four starters and 11 lettermen from a team that went 21-12 overall and 12-6 in the Southern Conference last season. The 21 wins were the most by a Paladin squad since the 2008-09 campaign.
Redshirt senior Matt Rafferty (Avg. 15.9 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 3.8 APG) headlines a strong group of returnees after being named the SoCon Player of the Year last season. The 6-foot-8 forward from Hingham, Massachusetts, also earned first team All-SoCon accolades after finishing second in the league in both scoring and rebounding. Rafferty will once again be flanked by two other redshirt seniors in center Mike Buckmire (Avg. 8.3 PPG, 4.6 RPG) and guard Bryant Irwin (Avg. 7.0 PPG, 1.9 APG). Junior guard Devonte Williamson (Avg. 13.7 PPG, 5.4 RPG) rounds out the group of returning starters after being named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team last year following his breakout campaign.
Sophomores Jordan Lyons (Avg. 10.3 PPG, 2..3 APG) and Clay Mounce (Avg 10..2 PPG., 3..3 RPG.) will look to build on strong freshman seasons that saw each player earn significant minutes in Furman’s rotation.. After playing sparingly as freshmen, junior Noah Gurley (Avg 2..8 PPG., 1..7 RPG.) and redshirt sophomore Alex Hunter (Avg 2..1 PPG) will also vie for increased roles in 2018-19
Schedule
Furman’s men’s Basketball team will take on the University of South Carolina Upstate in their first game of the season on November 6th at 7 p.m. in the Bon Secours Wellness arena. The Paladins will be looking to improve upon their 21-12 record from last season in which they reached the semi-finals of the Southern conference tournament before falling to eventual champion UNC Greensboro.
