The Girona Basketball Club commonly known as simply Girona, is a Spanish professional basketball team that is based in Girona, Catalonia, Spain. The team plays in the Liga ACB and their home arena is the Palacio de los Deportes de la Generalitat de Catalunya, which has a capacity of 5,000 seaters.

The Girona Basketball Club was founded on June 8th, 1986. The club had its first breakthrough season in the 1992-1993 campaign, when it qualified for the Copa Del Rey de Baloncesto. In the 1995-1996 season, Girona achieved its first promotion to the Spanish top-tier level Liga ACB In its second season in the Liga ACB, Girona managed to reach the playoff semifinal series. In 2001, Girona won the LEB championship.

Girona’s most successful period started in the 2006-2007 campaign. That year, led by Head Coach Pep Margarit, and players such as Juan Carlos Navarro and Erazem Lorbek, Girona won the ULEB Eurocup champions title. In addition to that success, they also reached the semifinal series of the Liga ACB playoffs. That same season they also won two other titles: The Catalan League Championship and the Spanish King’s Cup championship.

In 2010-2011 season Navarro was named MVP of Euroleague after averaging 18 points per game In 2014-, Gromova became new head coach replacing Aíto García Reneses who moved to FC Barcelona Bàsquet; under his guidance and with a core composed by Navarro (now team captain), Lorbek and Xavi Rabaseda (both former All-Euroleague players), rookie Kevin Pangos and experienced Justin Doellman among others; Girona reached again ACB league playoffs as 8th seed but were swept by eventual champion Real Madrid in quarterfinals.[1]

In 2015–16 season Garcia Reneses returned as Head Coach and led them back to Eurocup competition after 13 years of absence signing a deal with Unicaja Málaga for play roulette until2017;[2] this time ending eliminated in Round of 32 by Stelmet Zielona Góra.[3]
