The Grambling basketball Roster

The Grambling basketball team is composed of talented student-athletes who are committed to working hard and representing their school with pride. Below is a list of the current members of the team, along with some brief information about each player.

Guards
-Ja’Quan McKnight: A junior from Baton Rouge Louisiana, McKnight is a skilled guard who is known for his shooting ability. He averaged 12.5 points per game last season and was named to the All-SWAC Second Team.
--Jaylin Williams A sophomore from Little Rock, Arkansas, Williams is a physical guard who provides a spark on both Offense and defense He averaged 9.4 points per game last season and led the team in steals.

Forwards
-Reginal Johnson: A senior from Birmingham, Alabama, Johnson is a versatile forward who can score inside and out. He averaged 13.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season and was named to the All-SWAC First Team.
-Terrell Williams: A junior from Dallas, Texas, Williams is a powerful forward who excels at rebounding and shot blocking. He averaged 8.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season and was named to the All-SWAC Defensive Team.

The Team’s Star Players

Grambling State University’s Basketball team is currently ranked number one in the nation. The team is led by star players like Da’Quan Cook, who was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s player of the year, and Jaylin Gibson, who was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the year. Other standouts on the team include Trayvon Reed, Tre’Lun Banks, and Travon Bunch.

The Team’s Bench Players

Quentin Lewis is a 6’6″ guard/forward who is originally from Baton Rouge Louisiana. He attended McKinley Senior High School where he was a three-time All-District selection. Lewis played two years of college basketball at Itawamba Community College in Mississippi before transferring to Grambling State University

Rashad McKnight is a 6’7″ forward who hails from Monroe, Louisiana. He played his high school basketball at Carroll high school where he was named second team All-District as a senior. McKnight began his college career at Central Arizona College before transferring to Grambling State University

Darryl Jones is a 6’8″ forward/center from Little Rock, Arkansas. He played his high school basketball at Mills University Studies high school where he was a member of the state championship team as a senior. Jones then attended Navarro College in Texas for two years before transferring to Grambling State University

The Team’s Coaching Staff

Grambling’s Basketball Program is led by Head Coach Sean Woods. He is assisted by Mo Williams, Robert McCullum, and Michael Grant.

The Team’s Rivalries

Though the team’s primary rivals include other Historically Black Colleges and universities (HBCUs) like Southern University and Prairie View A&M University, Grambling State University’s men’s basketball team has had several notable rivalries throughout its history. One of the most notable is with Louisville University. The two teams met each other in the 1971 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament with Grambling coming out on top 79-76. Since then, they’ve met eight more times, with Louisville winning six of those match-ups.
