Introduction

Houston Baptist University’s baseball program has a long and successful history, dating back to its inception in 1954. The team has won conference championships and made postseason appearances, including five trips to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship The Huskies play their home games at Husky Field, located on the HBU campus in Houston, Texas.

The Schedule

The 2017 Houston Baptist Baseball Schedule has been announced, and the Huskies will open the season on Feb. 17 against Mcneese State The schedule features 30 games, including 17 at home.

The Huskies will play their first 10 games of the season on the road, beginning with a four-game series at McNeese State from Feb. 17-20. They’ll also travel to Texas Tech (Feb. 24-26), Oklahoma (March 3-5) and New Mexico (March 10-12) before returning home to host Prairie View A&M on March 14.

The Houston Baptist Huskies baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Houston Baptist University in Houston, Texas, United States The team is a member of the Southland Conference which is part of the NCAA Division I. The team plays its home games at Husky Field in Houston, Texas.

The Fans

As any good baseball fan knows, one of the best parts of the game is the chance to catch a foul ball Sitting in the stands, you can watch the ball soar through the air and then make a mad dash for it when it comes down into the stands. But sometimes, you might not be able to get to the ball in time. That’s where Houston Baptist Baseball’s “Ball Boy” comes in!

The Ball Boy is a Houston Baptist baseball fan who is dedicated to catching foul balls that come into the stands. He/she wears a special Houston Baptist baseball T-shirt and gloves and roams the stands looking for foul balls. When a Foul Ball comes your way, The Ball Boy will be there to catch it!

The Stadium

This season, the Huskies are scheduled to play 29 home games with conference foes Oral Roberts Sam Houston State Incarnate Word and University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley visiting Houston. Out-of-conference opponents coming to town include Louisiana Tech McNeese State, Prairie View A&M, Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern and UTSA.

The History

The Houston Baptist University Huskies baseball team began play in 1968. The Huskies are members of the Southland Conference and play their Home Games at Husky Stadium on the university’s campus in Houston, Texas.

In their first season of play, the Huskies finished with an 18–22 record. Mark Morgan was the team’s first Head Coach and he would coached the team for four seasons. In 1971, under head coach Keith Moreland, the Huskies finished with a 28–17 record and made their first appearance in the NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament The Huskies returned to the tournament in 1972, 1973, 1974, and 1975. In 1976, Houston Baptist won the Southland conference tournament and made their first appearance in the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament

The Rivalries

As a Houston Baptist baseball fan you know that the biggest rivals are Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M. But, there are other schools that the team plays against throughout the season. Check out the schedule below to see when these exciting games will take place.

The Future

The Houston Baptist University Huskies baseball team has released their schedule for the upcoming season The team is looking to continue their winning ways from last season when they went 30-27 overall and 15-12 in conference play

Some of the key games on the schedule include a three-game series against the University of Texas at Arlington (Feb. 28-March 2), a four-game series against Sam Houston State University (March 14-17), and a three-game series against Oral Roberts University (May 9-11).

The Huskies will also play in the annual Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic at Minute Maid Park (Feb. 14-16). The tournament features some of the top college baseball teams in the country, including Baylor, TCU, Texas A&M, and LSU.

The Tradition

The tradition of the program dates back to 1959 when the school fielded its first team. Since then, the Huskies have been a regular contender in NCAA Division I baseball, making 11 appearances in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship In 2016, the Huskies qualified for the Houston Regional as the No. 4 seed and won their first game against third-seeded Texas A&M before being eliminated by No. 1-seeded LSU.

Conclusion

The Huskies failed to make the conference tournament for a third consecutive year.

The team went 22-29 overall and 11-16 in Southland Conference play.

Houston Baptist did not play in either the 2017 or 2018 Conference Tournaments after losing in the 2016 semi-finals to eventual tournament champion Sam Houston State
