The Indiana Hoosiers men’s Basketball team is one of the most storied programs in all of college basketball They have won five National Championships including one in 2020, and have produced numerous NBA All-Stars and Hall of Famers

The 2021 IU roster is filled with talented players, both experienced and newcomers. Here is a look at some of the Key Players on this year’s team:

Trayce Jackson-Davis: A sophomore from Greenwood, Indiana, Jackson-Davis was named the Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year. He averaged nearly 16 points and eight rebounds per game as a freshman, and is expected to be one of the best players in the country this season.

Armaan Franklin: A 6’4″ guard from Indianapolis, Franklin is a versatile player who can score from anywhere on the court. He averaged 10 points per game last season and will be counted on to provide leadership for this year’s team.

Race Thompson: A 6’8″ forward from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Thompson is a transfer from Arizona State who will provide a much-needed inside presence for the Hoosiers. He is a strong rebounder and defender who will also add some scoring punch to the lineup.

Justin Smith: A junior from Chicago, Illinois, Smith is another versatile player who can play multiple positions He averaged nearly nine points and five rebounds per game last season and will be looked to for his scoring and rebounding ability again this year.

New Faces

While many familiar faces will return for the 2021 Indiana University basketball team there are also a few new ones. Here’s a quick guide to the new members of the team.

Trayce Jackson-Davis is a 6’9″, 240-pound forward from Carmel, Indiana. He was ranked as the No. 9 player in the class of 2019 by ESPN and chose IU over offers from Michigan State Purdue, and UCLA.

Armaan Franklin is a 6’4″, 185-pound guard from Indianapolis. He was ranked as the No. 85 player in the class of 2019 by ESPN and chose IU over offers from Butler, Purdue, and Xavier.

Bryce Hopkins is a 6’6″, 210-pound forward from Chicago. He was ranked as the No. 100 player in the class of 2020 by ESPN and chose IU over offers from DePaul, Marquette, and Northwestern.

Returning Stars

Heading into the 2021 season, the Indiana University men’s Basketball team has some very talented returning players. Here is a look at some of the team’s stars:

Devonte Green: A 6-foot-3 guard from Long Island Green averaged 11.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last season. He is a very good outside shooter and is also a solid defender.

Trayce Jackson-Davis: A 6-foot-9 forward from Gary, Indiana, Jackson-Davis averaged 13.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game as a freshman last season. He is an excellent athlete with a very high motor. He is also a very good rebounder and shot blocker for his size.

Justin Smith: A 6-foot-7 forward from Chicago, Smith averaged 11.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season. He is a very good all-around player who can score inside and out, rebound, and defend multiple positions well.

Key Departures

The Hoosiers will have to replace a lot of production from last year’s squad.

They lose their leading scorer in Trayce Jackson-Davis as well as veteran leaders in Joey Brunk and Devonte Green. They also lose a big piece in the backcourt in Rob Phinisee, who was their best perimeter defender.

Trayce Jackson-Davis: A 6’9″, 250-pound forward from Carmel, Indiana, Jackson-Davis was ranked as the No. 11 player in the nation by ESPN coming out of High School He’s a versatile player who can score inside and out, and he’s also a good rebounder and shot blocker. He should be an immediate impact player for the Hoosiers.

Armaan Franklin: A 6’4″, 185-pound guard from Indianapolis, Franklin was ranked as the No. 97 player in the nation by ESPN coming out of high school He’s a gifted scorer with a smooth jump shot and he’s also a good ball handler and passer. He’ll be asked to provide some scoring punch off the bench for IU this season.

Khristian Landon-Howell: A 6’6″, 175-pound forward from Pickerington, Ohio, Landon-Howell was ranked as the No. 187 player in the nation by ESPN coming out of high school He’s a long and athletic wing player who can shoot and defend. He’ll add some depth to IU’s rotation this season.

Tony Perkins: A 6’10”, 210-pound center from Minneapolis, Perkins was ranked as the No. 200 player in the nation by ESPN coming out of high school He’s a big body who can rebound and block shots and he has some offensive potential as well. He’ll back up Jackson-Davis at center this season..

Head Coach: Archie Miller
Archie Miller is in his fourth season as Head Coach of the Hoosiers. In that time, he has led IU to one NCAA Tournament appearance and two NIT appearances. He has a career record of 85-60.

Assistant Coaches:
– Bruiser Flint: Associate head coach Flint joined the Indiana staff in 2019 after stops at Saint Joseph’s, UMass, and Drexel.
– Tom Ostrom: Assistant Coach Ostrom is in his first season as an IU assistant coach after serving as Head Coach at Division III Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
