Introducing the 2020 Jesuit Baseball Roster
The 2020 Jesuit baseball roster is filled with a mix of returners and newcomers. The team will look to defend their state title with a core group of experienced players, while also relying on some younger guys to step up and contribute. Here’s a quick introduction to the team:
pitchers
-Senior Ace Will Matos will once again anchor the pitching staff. He’s coming off a spectacular junior season in which he was named Gatorade Player of the Year for Florida.
– Joining Matos in the rotation will be senior right-hander David Cruz, who was also a key member of last year’s team.
– Junior lefty Danny Diaz will round out the rotation. He showed promise as a sophomore and should take another step forward this year.
catchers
– Senior captain Nick Rodriguez will be behind the plate for most of the games. He’s a great leader and has a strong arm.
– Junior Sebastian Diaz will back up Rodriguez and could see some time at first base as well.
infielders
– Senior third baseman Alexei Ramirez is one of the best hitters on the team. He’ll provide some power in the middle of the lineup.
– Shortstop is a position battle between two seniors: slick-fielding Pablo Lopez and slugging Javier Rodriguez. Whoever doesn’t win the starting job will be a very valuable utility player.
– First base will be manned by junior Manny Santos, who has worked hard to improve his defense over the past year.
– The other corner infield spot is still up for grabs, but senior Ryan Betancourt and junior Jason Martinez are both vying for it.
– Sophomore Tommy Reyes provides depth at both second base and shortstop.
outfielders
The outfield is where you’ll find most of the team’s speed and defense. All three starters are seniors: center fielder Tony Rodriguez, Left fielder Carlos Perez, and right fielder Ricardo Alvarez. All three have been starters since their sophomore year and are excellent defenders with good range. They’ll also provide some pop at the plate, especially Tony Rodriguez who hit 9 home runs last year. Rounding out the outfield unit is junior reserve Oscar Martinez, who can play all three positions well
