He has never been a full-time starter in his eight-year career, but he has carved out a role as a reliable reserve and energy player off the bench.

Henson is one of those players who seems to always be on the move, as he has been traded four times in his career. He was dealt from Milwaukee to Cleveland in 2014 as part of a trade that sent Andrew Bogut to the Warriors. The Cavaliers then traded him to the Nets in 2016 as part of a package for Kevin Love. Henson was dealt again in 2018, this time from Brooklyn to Detroit in a deal that brought Blake Griffin to the Nets.

John Henson was not a highly recruited player coming out of high school He was ranked as the #21 Power Forward and #84 player overall in the class of 2009 by Rivals.com. He was not ranked in the top 100 by Scout.com or ESPN. He did not receive a single offer from a major Division I school. The only school to offer him a scholarship was the University of North Carolina his dream school.

Henson had to retake the SAT several times before he achieved a qualifying score. As a result, he did not enroll at UNC until the January of his freshman year, which made him ineligible to play that season. In his three years at UNC, Henson’s averaging 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game while shooting over 50% from the field and 80% from the Free Throw Line
