John Schumann was born on October 12, 1992, in Los Angeles California. He was the only child of his parents, John and Nancy Schumann. His father worked as an electrician and his mother was a homemaker. When he was three years old, his family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he would spend the rest of his childhood.

However, he worked hard and saw his role expand in his second year. He averaged nearly ten minutes per game while appearing in 74 games.

The following season, Schumann became a more integral part of the Nets rotation. He appeared in 80 games, starting 42 of them. He averaged 11 points and four rebounds per game while shooting 42 percent from three-point range His strong play helped the Nets reach the playoffs, where they would eventually lose to the Miami Heat in the first round.

After two more seasons with the Nets, Schumann was traded to the Denver Nuggets in 2008. He appeared in just 18 games for Denver before being waived. He then became Head Coach of the Gateway College men’s Basketball team in 2018.
