Schumann’s Early Life and Career
John Schumann was born on October 12, 1992, in Los Angeles California. He was the only child of his parents, John and Nancy Schumann. His father worked as an electrician and his mother was a homemaker. When he was three years old, his family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he would spend the rest of his childhood.
Schumann began playing basketball at a young age and quickly developed a passion for the sport. He played on his local youth team and then in High School During his senior year, he was selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American Game After graduating from high school he attended the University of Arizona on a Basketball Scholarship
During his freshman year, Schumann averaged 12 points per game and was named the Pac-12 Conference Freshman of the Year. He continued to improve during his sophomore and junior years andwas selected as a first-team All-American prior to his senior year. However, during his senior year, he suffered a serious Knee Injury that ended his season prematurely.
Schumann’s Time with the NBA
John Schumann was drafted by the Brooklyn Nets in the second round of the 2004 NBA draft He didn’t see much playing time his rookie season, averaging just over three minutes per game. However, he worked hard and saw his role expand in his second year. He averaged nearly ten minutes per game while appearing in 74 games.
The following season, Schumann became a more integral part of the Nets rotation. He appeared in 80 games, starting 42 of them. He averaged 11 points and four rebounds per game while shooting 42 percent from three-point range His strong play helped the Nets reach the playoffs, where they would eventually lose to the Miami Heat in the first round.
After two more seasons with the Nets, Schumann was traded to the Denver Nuggets in 2008. He appeared in just 18 games for Denver before being waived. He would finish his NBA Career with brief stints with the Charlotte Bobcats and Los Angeles Clippers In total, he appeared in 134 NBA games averaging 5.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game
Schumann’s Post-NBA Career
John Schumann was drafted in the second round of the NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2004. He played ten seasons in the NBA, including two seasons with the Bucks. After his NBA career Schumann transitioned into coaching. He was an Assistant Coach for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s basketball team from 2016 to 2018. He then became Head Coach of the Gateway College men’s Basketball team in 2018.

John Schumann was born on September 29, 1989, in Sioux Falls South Dakota to a family of mixed German and Norwegian descent. He has three older siblings. His father played football for the University of Iowa and his mother was a professional volleyball player. Schumann was raised in Omaha, Nebraska.
He attended Creighton Preparatory School, where he played basketball and football. In 2007, he was named Mr. Basketball of Nebraska. He then went on to play college basketball for the University of Kansas Jayhawks
