Draft Order
The following is the draft order for the first and second rounds of the 2020 NBA draft with team records and sites as of the morning of March 11:
Mock Drafts
The NBA draft is one of the most exciting events in the basketball calendar, as the best young players in the world are selected to join the professional ranks. In the lead-up to the draft, mock drafts are published by various media outlets and scouting services, as experts attempt to predict which players will be taken in which order.
Mock drafts are generally based on a combination of factors, including projected team needs, individual player talent and potential, and previous draft history. While they can be fun to read and provide a helpful snapshot of the collective opinion of the draft community, mock drafts should always be taken with a grain of salt. Ultimately, only time will tell who were the true winners and losers on draft night.
Big Board
The biggest difference between this year’s draft and last year’s is that there are no sure-fire, can’t-miss prospects at the top. Last year, there were a handful of players who were considered can’t-miss prospects, but this year there are none. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any potential All-Stars in this draft, but it does mean that there is more uncertainty at the top of the draft than there has been in recent years
1. Zion Williamson PF, Duke
The consensus top prospect in the draft, Williamson is an incredible athlete with elite physical tools. He’s also a very good shooter and a good rebounder. The biggest question mark with Williamson is his defense, as he has a tendency to gamble on blocks and gets beaten off the dribble too easily.
2. Ja Morant, PG, Murray State
Morant is one of the most exciting players in the draft. He’s an elite point guard prospect with great size, speed, and explosiveness. He’s also a very good shooter and passer. The biggest question mark with Morant is his defense, as he tends to gamble on steals and gets beat off the dribble too easily.
3. Rui Hachimura, PF/SF, Gonzaga
Hachimura is one of the most skilled players in the draft. He has great size for a small forward and he can shoot and score from anywhere on the court. He’s also an excellent rebounder. The biggest question mark with Hachimura is his defense, as he tends to gamble on blocks and gets beaten off the dribble too easily.
4. Darius Garland, PG/SG, Vanderbilt
Garland is one of the most intriguing prospects in the draft. He’s a 6’2 point guard with a 7’1 wingspan and he can shoot lights out from anywhere on the court. He’s also a very good passer. The biggest question mark with Garland is his defense, as he tends to gamble on steals and gets beat off the dribble too easily.
Player Profiles
Zion Williamson – Duke
Zion Williamson is widely regarded as the Top Prospect in the 2019 NBA Draft He is a physical freak of nature, standing at 6’7” and 285 pounds, with a wingspan of 7’3”. On the offensive end, he has shown the ability to score in a variety of ways, from posting up weaker defenders to facing up and going around them. He has also shownimproved range on his jump shot although it is still a work in progress. Williamson is still raw offensively, but there is no questioning his upside. He has the potential to be a generational talent, and he should be the top pick in the 2019 NBA Draft
RJ Barrett – Duke
RJ Barrett is widely considered to be the second-best prospect in the 2019 NBA Draft Like Zion Williamson he is an exceptional athlete with a powerful frame. Barrett stands at 6’7” and 202 pounds, with a wingspan of 7’0”. He is an explosive leaper who finishes well above the rim, and he has the strength to bully his way to the basket. He has a smooth jumper with range beyond the three-point line and he is also an excellent passer for a wing player. Barrett needs to improve his decision-making on offense, but there is no questioning his upside. He has all of the tools to be a star in the NBA, and he should be a high lottery pick in the 2019 NBA Draft
NBA Draft History
The NBA Draft is an annual event dating back to 1947 in which the teams from the National Basketball Association (NBA) can draft players who are eligible and wish to join the league. These players typically include international players, as well as college basketball players and other eligible players. The draft consists of two rounds of picks, with each team having a total of 60 seconds to make their pick in the first round. The order of picks is determined by the previous season’s standings, with the team with the Worst Record receiving the first pick and so on.
In recent years, the NBA Draft has been televised live on ESPN, providing fans with an opportunity to see future stars begin their professional careers. In addition, many draft prospects participate in pre-draft workouts and interviews with teams leading up to the event. The NBA Draft Lottery is held prior to the draft, giving teams a chance to earn the right to select first overall.
The 2020 NBA draft will be held on October 16th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
