The Pitching Rotation

Lenoir Rhyne will have a three-game home stretch against Tusculum, beginning on Friday, April 7. The struggling bats will look to take advantage of the Pioneers’ pitching rotation, which has posted a team ERA of 9.00 over the last five games.

On Friday, senior right-hander Zachary Rice will get the start for Lenoir Rhyne. Rice has been electric since returning from an early-season injury, posting a 0.77 ERA in 11.2 innings pitched He will be opposed by Tusculum junior righty Dylan Daulton, who has been one of the Pioneers’ most reliable starters this season. Daulton has a 3.86 ERA in 45 innings pitched.

The series will continue on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. Lenoir Rhyne will send junior lefty Andrew Harris to the mound in the opener. The Catchers

Coach Hester comes to Lenoir-Rhyne from Tusculum College where he was an Assistant Coach for the Pioneers. He will now look to lead the Bears back to the NCAA Division II Baseball World Series for the first time since 2016. As conference play gets underway, the Catawba Valley Brewers will come to town for a three-game series. The Bears will then travel to Winston-Salem to take on in-state rival Winston-Salem State The Rams are always a tough out and it will be a good early test for Lenoir-Rhyne. Later in the month, the Bears will host Wingate for a three-game set before hitting the road again to take on King (TN).

In April, Lenoir-Rhyne welcomes back former head coach Jesse Foster to Hickory for a three-game series against Carson-Newman. The Eagles are always one of the top teams in the South Atlantic Conference and it will be a good measuring stick for where the Bears are at that point in the season. The month of April also features home games against Tusculum and Lincoln Memorial as well as road trips to Mars Hill and Anderson (SC).

In baseball, the designated hitter (DH) is a player who bats in place of the pitcher. The position is authorized by Major League Baseball Rule 5.11, and was adopted by the American League in 1973. There is no corresponding rule for the National League

3) The series against Carson-Newman from February 17th-19th. This will be a good test for the Bears, as Carson-Newman is one of the top teams in the region.

4) The home opener against Belmont Abbey on March 3rd. The LRU baseball team has been working hard all offseason, and they’ll be looking to show off their improvements in front of their home fans.
