Torchetti is another former NHL player who has been coaching since 2002. He has worked as an assistant coach with several NHL teams including the Tampa Bay Lightning and Minnesota Wild He was also head coach of HC Sochi of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) from 2014 to 2016.

The Captains

Maine has a long and storied tradition of hockey, dating back to the early days of the sport. The Captains are a big part of that tradition, and they have a long history of their own.

The Captains are a team of 11 players, all of whom are from the state of Maine. They play in the American Hockey League (AHL), and they are the primary development team for the NHL’s Boston Bruins

Mika Cyr is an 18-year-old from Cap-Rouge, Quebec. He is 6’2” and weighs 202 pounds. Cyr played for the Shawinigan Cataractes of the Quebec Major Junior hockey League (QMJHL) before coming to Maine. In 62 games with Shawinigan, he had 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points.

Defensemen

Luke Gbagbo is a 20-year-old from Scarborough, Ontario. He is 6’2” and weighs 200 pounds Gbagbo played for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) before coming to Maine. In 63 games with Sault Ste. Marie, he had four goals and 17 assists for 21 points.

The Veterans

Maine has a long history of success in college hockey and the current roster is full of experienced players who have the potential to make a big impact. Here are some of the veterans who will be leading the way for the Black Bears this season.

Forwards

Mitch Fadden is a senior from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He’s a two-time All-American and was named the Hockey East Player of the Year last season. Fadden is Maine’s All-time leading scorer, and he’s widely considered one of the best players in college hockey He’ll be counted on to provide leadership and scoring punch for the Black Bears this season.

Brian Flynn is a senior from Lynnfield, MA. He was named an All-American last season after posting 21 goals and 37 assists. Flynn is a dangerous offensive player and he’ll be looked to as one of Maine’s go-to guys in the offensive zone

Defensemen

Brady Skjei is a native of Lakeville, MN. He’s a big (6’3″, 200 lbs.), physical defenseman who loves to hit. Skjei is also a good puck-mover and an excellent skater. He’ll be counted on to provide some stability on Maine’s blue line this season.

Jake Rutt is another senior defenseman from Scarborough, ME. He’s not as big as Skjei (6’1″, 180 lbs.), but he’s an extremely savvy player with great vision and instincts. Rutt will be one of Maine’s key leaders on defense this season
