The team has been working hard all season to get to this point, and they are excited to finally be able to show off their skills in the playoffs. The team is composed of talented players who are ready to take on anything that comes their way.

MA Basketball History

The Menlo-Atherton high school varsity basketball team is headed to the Peninsula Athletic League playoffs for the first time in three years. The Bears will take on second-seeded Burlingame in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, February 11 at 7:00 pm.

This is an exciting time for the Menlo-Atherton community, as the Basketball team has a long and storied history. The Bears have won four league championships and one state championship since the school was founded in 1926.

The Players

The Menlo-Atherton Bears boys’ basketball team is readying for the Peninsula Athletic League playoffs, which begin on Tuesday. The Bears (18-6, 12-2) are the No. 2 seed in the PAL Bay Division and will have a first-round bye.

Head coach John Rayborn said the team is led by its seniors — 6-foot-4 wing Keshawn Hathaway, 6-2 guard Anthony Gordon and 5-11 guard Bryce Daly.

“They’ve been starting for us for three years now,” Rayborn said. “They know what it takes to win in our league and playoff basketball. They provide great leadership for us.”

Hathaway is the team’s leading scorer at 16 points per game He alsoGrab rebounds and dishes out assists. Gordon, who has signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Washington State averages 14 points and four assists per game Daly is averaging 10 points and is the team’s best three-point shooter, Rayborn said.

The Bears also have gotten solid contributions from junior big men Tate Samuelson (6-7) and Jacob Scarbrough (6-5). Samuelson is averaging eight points and six rebounds per game while Scarbrough is averaging seven points and five rebounds per game

The Coach

In his first year as Head Coach Matt Coldren has led the Menlo-Atherton high school boys’ basketball team to a spot in the postseason playoffs.

Under Coldren’s guidance, the Bears have improved their record to 19-5 overall and 10-2 in league play. They will now take on Pomona in the first round of the playoffs.

Coldren, who played collegiate basketball at UC Berkeley, took over the program last year after serving as an Assistant Coach at Stanford University He said he is excited to see his team make the playoffs in his first year as head coach

“It’s a great accomplishment for our guys,” he said. “We’ve worked hard all season and it’s nice to see it pay off.”

The Fans

The Menlo-Atherton high school boys basketball team is headed to the playoffs for the first time in four years and the fans are ecstatic. “We’re so excited for the team and we’re really proud of them,” said M-A parent Gina Tait. “It’s been a long time coming.”

The Bears finished the regular season with a 19-7 record, good for second place in the Peninsula Athletic League. They will open the playoffs at home on Wednesday night against San Mateo.

Tait has been attending M-A games for the past three years and says this is the most excited she’s seen the community. “Everyone is talking about it,” she said. “There’s a real sense of pride and School Spirit

M-A student Jake Friedman echoed those sentiments. “It feels really good,” he said of his team’s success. “We haven’t been to playoffs in Forever and it’s just a great feeling all around. I think everyone is just really happy for the team.”

The Season

The Menlo-Atherton high school (M-A) boys’ basketball team is having a great season. As of February 11th, they are 20-3 overall and 10-0 in league play. They are currently ranked #1 in the Central Coast Section (CCS) and #2 in the Northern California region.

The team is led by senior captain Finn Snyder, who is averaging 14 points per game Other Key Players include juniors Aidan Mahaney and Nate Robertson, who are averaging 12 and 11 points per game respectively. The team’s success has been due to their strong defense, which has been holding opponents to an average of just 47 points per game

The Bears will be looking to continue their success in the upcoming CCS playoffs, which start on February 22nd. They will be seeded #1 in the playoffs and will have a first-round bye.Their first game will be on February 27th against the winner of the #16 vs #17 game.

The Playoffs

The Menlo-Atherton high school varsity Basketball team has clinched a berth in the Central Coast Section (CCS) playoffs. The Bears (17-7, 12-2) finished second in the Peninsula Athletic League’s Bay Division and will enter the CCS Division II tournament as the No. 8 seed. They will host No. 9 Sacred Heart Prep (15-9, 10-4) in a first-round game on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.

The Bears will take on San Mateo in the first round of the playoffs, with the game taking place on Tuesday, February 11th. The winner of that game will advance to take on either Burlingame or Aragon in the second round.

The Menlo-Atherton Bears have been one of the top teams in the Peninsula Athletic League over the past few years, and they will be looking to make a deep run in the playoffs this year.

MA Alumni

The Menlo-Atherton Bears boys’ Basketball team clinched a spot in the Peninsula Athletic League playoffs with a 67-52 victory over Burlingame on Thursday.

The Bears (11-13, 8-8) poured in 27 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Panthers (12-12, 7-9), who were led by Kameron Ritchie’s 20 points.

M-A will be the No. 7 seed in the PAL playoffs and will open the tournament on Tuesday at No. 2 Half Moon Bay (19-5, 12-4). The Cougars beat M-A twice during the Regular Season winning 61-51 on Jan. 17 and 67-52 on Feb. 7.
