Non-Conference Games

The Mercyhurst Men’s basketball team will play a total of 28 games in the 2019-2020 season Of those 28 games, 14 will be played against non-conference opponents. The following is the schedule for those non-conference games:

Conference Games

The Mercyhurst Men’s Basketball Schedule for the 2019-2020 season includes conference games against opponents in the East Coast Conference. The conference games will be played on the following dates:

-January 11, 2020 vs. Molloy College

Post-Season Games

The Mercyhurst men’s Basketball team will compete in the NCAA Division II tournament for the 2019-2020 season. The Lakers will enter the tournament as the number one seed in the Midwest region and will face off against eight seed Indianapolis in the first round. The game will be played on March 14th at 4:00pm EST at Mercyhurst’s home court the Hammermill Center. If the Lakers win, they will move on to play either four seed Fairmont State or five seed West Liberty in the second round on March 16th.

Player Highlights

The Mercyhurst men’s Basketball team is entering its 2019-2020 season with high hopes. The team is led by senior captain Derek Strugar, who is coming off a strong junior year. The Lakers also have a deep bench, with a Number of players who can contribute in a variety of ways.

On the schedule this season, the Lakers will face some tough competition. They will open their season with a home game against cross-town rival Gannon University This will be followed by games against nationally-ranked teams like Kentucky and Duke. However, the team is confident that they can compete with anyone on their schedule and are looking forward to a successful season

-The Lakers will open up their regular season at home on November 5th against Wayne State This will be the first time these two teams have met since Wayne State won in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Division II Tournament.

-On November 29th, Mercyhurst will travel to take on Indiana University of Pennsylvania. This will be a rematch of last year’s game, which IUP won in overtime.

-The Lakers will have a busy December, with five games scheduled during the month. They will open up December with a three-game road trip beginning with a game at Fellowes College on December 6th. Fellowes is a new Division II school, and this will be the first time these two teams have ever met. The Lakers will then take on regional rivals Edinboro and Clarion before returning home for their final game of the month against Kutztown on December 21st.

-Mercyhurst fans will have plenty of opportunities to see the team play at home in 2020. The Lakers will have eight home games in January, including match-ups against conference foes West Chester and East Stroudsburg They will also host non-conference opponents such as Mansfield University and Shippensburg University during the month.
