Brown’s Professional Basketball career began in 1992 when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers He played two seasons with the Lakers before being traded to the Indiana Pacers in 1994. He spent three seasons with the Pacers, winning an NBA Championship in 2000. In 2001, he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. After one season with the 76ers, he was traded back to the Lakers, where he spent four more seasons and won another NBA championship in 2002. After brief stints with the Charlotte Bobcats and Dallas Mavericks Brown retired from professional basketball in 2006.

In May 2016, Mike Brown was hired by the Los Angeles Lakers to be their Head coach making him the first African American head coach in the team’s history. Return to the Lakers

In December 2011, Mike Brown made his return to the Lakers as their head coach After being let go by the Cleveland Cavaliers in May 2010, Brown spent a year coaching the young, rebuilding Charlotte Bobcats. He was then approached by the Lakers, who were looking for a defensive-minded coach to help them reclaim their championship status.

Despite leading the team to a record of NBA worst 17-65 in his first season, Brown was able to turn things around and led the Lakers back to the playoffs in 2013.
