The game was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than six points. In the end, the Huskies pulled ahead to win by a score of 79-56. It was a great game between two amazing teams!

Although they were the underdogs, the University of South Carolina Gamecocks met and exceeded expectations by making it to their first ever appearance in the Final Four. The Gamecocks were up against three-time defending champions, the University of Connecticut Huskies. The first half was a close battle, with both teams shooting over 50% from the field. UConn managed to pull ahead by 5 points at halftime. In the second half, the Gamecocks came out strong, quickly tying up the score. From there, it was a back-and-forth battle, with neither team able to gain more than a 5 point lead. With less than a minute left in the game, UConn’s Katie Lou Samuelson hit a 3-pointer to put her team up by 4 points. South Carolina’s Bianca Cuevas-Moore responded with a layup to make it a 2 point game UConn’s Gabby Williams then hit 1 of 2 Free throws to extend their lead to 3 points. With less than 10 seconds left in the game, South Carolina’s A’ja Wilson hit a jumper to tie up the score and send it into overtime. In overtime, UConn managed to pull ahead and ultimately win by a final score of 96-83.

Notre Dame was facing off against the University of South Carolina who was making their first ever appearance in the Final Four.
The gamecocks got off to a slow start, but they turned it around in the second quarter and took a five point lead into halftime. The third quarter was back and forth, with neither team able to pull away. South Carolina held a slim lead going into the fourth quarter
In the fourth quarter Notre Dame made a run and took the lead with just over two minutes left in the game. But South Carolina would not give up. They fought back and tied the game with less than a minute left. In the end, it was Notre Dame who came out on top, winning 79-77.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” said UConn senior guard Katie Lou Samuelson. “I’m so proud to be a part of this team.”
Samuelson led the way for UConn with 19 points, while senior guard Gabby Williams added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Senior center Natalie Butler had 16 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.
“It means everything,” Williams said of winning another title. “This is why you come to UConn.”
South Carolina got 17 points from senior center A’ja Wilson, but she was held to just 6-of-18 shooting from the field by Williams and company. The Gamecocks finish the season 33-4.
