Since being founded in 2006, the East Conference (NEC) baseball program has seen a meteoric rise to prominence. In just thirteen years, the conference has sent fourteen teams to the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament including two national seeds (top sixteen teams in the country) in 2016 and 2017. The NEC has also had twenty-three players selected in the MLB Draft including four in the first round.
The secret to the NEC’s success on the diamond is no secret at all; it’s simply a matter of investing in the right programs and facilities. In recent years many of the conference’s schools have made significant upgrades to their baseball stadiums and recruited top-level talent to man their dugouts. The NEC’s top baseball programs
While the East Conference (NEC) is home to a number of quality Division I Baseball programs, three schools have emerged as the cream of the crop in recent years The 2017 season saw all three of these programs rank among the top 100 in RPI, with two cracking the top 50.
Leading the way is Bryant University which has been a powerhouse since joining the NEC in 2012. The Bulldogs have won four regular season titles and three conference tournament championships, including back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017. They’ve also made four straight trips to the NCAA tournament with their highest RPI ranking coming at #37 in 2017.
Next up is Sacred Art University which has been one of the NEC’s top programs for many years. The Pioneers have won eight regular season titles and six conference tournament championships, most recently winning both in 2016. They made back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament in 2013 and 2014, and their highest RPI ranking came at #48 in 2014.
Rounding out the top three is Fairleigh Dickinson University which has seen a resurgence in recent years under Head Coach Brent Knoll. The Knights have won two Regular Season titles and one Conference Tournament championship since Knoll took over in 2013, most recently winning the tournament in 2016. They made their first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2001 last year, and their highest RPI ranking came at #49 in 2017.
