With the NHL Draft now over, it’s time to take a look at how the second round could shake out.

NHL mock draft 2022: Round 2 – Top Picks

1. Buffalo Sabres – Owen Power D (Michigan, NCAA)
The Michigan native is a 6’6″ defenseman that plays a strong all-around game. He’s a good skater with Great Hockey sense. He had six goals and 22 assists in 36 games this season.

2. Anaheim Ducks – Simon Edvinsson, D (Frolunda, SHL)
A big (6’4″) Swedish defenseman that plays a physical game He’s a good skater with a great shot from the point. He had four goals and seven assists in 39 games this season.

3. Columbus Blue Jackets – Dylan Duke, C (Erie, OHL)
He’s a 6’3″ center that is good on both ends of the ice. He has great vision and is an outstanding playmaker. He had 27 goals and 56 assists in 62 games this season.

4. Detroit Red Wings – Matthew Savoie, RW (Sherwood Park, Alberta Junior hockey League)
The 17-year-old Savoie is one of the top prospects in this Draft Class He’s an elite skater with great offensive instincts. He had 49 goals and 104 points in just 54 games this season.

NHL Mock Draft 2022: Round 2 – Sleepers

As the first round of the NHL Draft wrapped up, there were a few players who fell further than expected. These are the top sleepers who could be taken in the second round of the NHL Draft

-Cameron Krusko, C, University of Michigan Krusko is a big body who can skate and has good hands. He fell to the second round because he didn’t have a great season offensively, but he has the potential to be a solid two-way player at the NHL level.

--Luke Hughes D, USA U-18 (NTDP): Hughes is a mobile defenseman with good vision and hockey IQ. He needs to work on his decision making with the puck, but he has the potential to be a top-four defenseman at the NHL level.

-Matias Maccelli, LW, Liiga (Finland): Maccelli is an undersized winger with good offensive instincts. He needs to work on his skating and defensive game, but he could be a dangerous offensive weapon if he develops properly.

NHL mock draft 2022: Round 2 – Busts

With the first round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft in the books, it’s time to take a look at some potential bust prospects in the second round. These are players who, for one reason or another, we don’t feel will live up to their draft position and could end up being big disappointments.

So without further ado, here are our top five bust prospects in the second round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft

1) Filip Zadina, LW, Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings took Zadina with the sixth overall pick in 2018, and he has yet to live up to that billing. In two NHL seasons, he’s managed just 28 goals and 49 points in 139 games. He did show some progress this past season, scoring 16 goals and 36 points in 70 games, but he still has a long way to go before he can be considered a true top-six forward in the NHL.

2) Oliver Wahlstrom, RW, New York Islanders
Wahlstrom was taken with the 11th overall pick by the Islanders in 2018 and has yet to play a single game for them at the NHL level. He’s spent the last two seasons with their AHL affiliate, tallying 30 goals and 62 points in 123 games. At 21 years old, he still has time to develop, but he’s already starting to look like a major reach at 11th overall.

3) K’Andre Miller, D, New York Rangers
Miller was taken 22nd overall by the Rangers in 2018 and has looked good so far in his young career. In two NHL seasons, he’s tallied four goals and 22 points in 134 games. However, we’re not convinced that he has what it takes to be a true top-four defenseman at the NHL level. His ceiling may be that of a bottom-pairing blueliner who sees limited Power play time.

4) Jake Wise C, Chicago Blackhawks
Wise was taken with the 69th overall pick by the Blackhawks in 2018 and has yet to make his NHL debut. He’s spent the last two seasons with their AHL affiliate (Rockford IceHogs), tallying 25 goals and 61 points in 124 games. At 21 years old, he’s running out of time to develop into an NHL player It’s looking more and more like he’ll never amount to anything more than a depth forward at best.

5) Liam Foudy, C/W Columbus Blue Jackets
Foudy was taken with Columbus’ 18th overall pick back 𝟯𝟱 + 𝟭𝟴 = 𝒇𝒊𝒍𝒍 which is considered pretty late for how talented this kid is as an offensive player who is creative with good vision on top of being prety fast which is everything you want from a 1st or 2nd line Center / winger these days … but there are some scouts who worry about his size (he’s only 5’11 192lbs) which might limit his potential as an elite player at the NHL level despite all of his other great qualities as a player

NHL Mock Draft 2022: Round 2 – Best Players by Position

NHL scouts have begun the process of identifying the top prospects eligible for the 2022 NHL Draft The draft order is not set, but we can still take a look at who the best players are by position.

NHL Mock Draft 2022: Round 2 – Team Needs

In the second round of the NHL mock draft teams will look to address needs on their roster. Here is a look at what each team might be looking for in the second round.

Buffalo Sabres – A physical defenseman who can eat minutes and provide some offense would be a good addition for the Sabres.

Calgary Flames – The Flames could use another skilled forward to add to their already deep group up front.

Carolina Hurricanes – The Hurricanes could use some help on defense, specifically a puck-moving defenseman who can contribute on the power play

Chicago Blackhawks – With two first-round picks the Blackhawks have the luxury of being able to draft the best player available. However, they could also use some help on defense or in goal.

Colorado Avalanche – The Avalanche could use another defenseman who can contribute offensively and play top-four minutes.

Columbus Blue Jackets – The Blue Jackets would like to add a forward who can score goals and play a physical game.

Dallas Stars – The Stars could use some help on defense, specifically a puck-moving defenseman who can contribute on the power play

Detroit Red Wings – The Red Wings need to continue to add young talent throughout their lineup and should take the best player available with this pick.

NHL Mock Draft 2022: Round 2 – Mock Draft

The NHL Entry Draft will be the selection of the professional Hockey Players by the National Hockey League (NHL) teams. It will be held on June 24-25, 2022, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

This will be the first time that Dallas will host the NHL Entry Draft and the second time that it has been held in the state of Texas (the first being Houston in 1971). The event was originally scheduled to take place in July 2021, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first round of the draft will be held on Friday, June 24th, with rounds 2-7 taking place on Saturday, June 25th.

NHL mock draft 2022: Round 2 – Analysis

With the 2021 NHL Draft now in the books, it’s time to take a look at how the 2022 NHL Draft might play out.

In our latest mock draft we have the New York Rangers selecting first overall for the second consecutive year. They used their first-round pick on Swedish defenseman Simon Edvinsson, who we believe has all the tools to be a star at the NHL level.

Today, we’ll be looking at Round 2 of our mock draft. As always, feel free to share your thoughts and contact us with any questions or comments you may have.

1) New York Rangers – Owen Power, D (University of Michigan NCAA)

The Rangers add another young defenseman to their prospect pool with Owen Power. Power is a big kid (6’5″, 222lbs) with great skating ability and a good understanding of the game. He’s stillraw and will need some time to develop, but we think he has all the tools to be a top-4 defenseman in the NHL someday.

2) Detroit Red Wings – Simon Edvinsson, D (Frolunda HC J20, SuperElit)

With their second pick in the first two rounds, Detroit selects another Swedish defenseman in Simon Edvinsson. Edvinsson is an excellent skater and has good size (6’4″, 205lbs). He’s also a good puck-mover and has shown good offensive instincts at the junior level. We think he has all the tools to be a top-4 defenseman in the NHL someday.

3) Buffalo Sabres – Dylan Guenther, RW (Edmonton Oil Kings WHL)

With their third pick in the first two rounds, Buffalo adds an elite scoring winger in Dylan Guenther. Guenther is an excellent skater with great hands and vision. He’s also a natural goal-scorer and had 41 goals and 95 points in just 56 games last season. We think he has all the tools to be a top-6 winger in the NHL someday.

NHL Mock Draft 2022: Round 2 – Results

With the first round of the NHL mock draft complete, it’s time to take a look at the results of Round 2.

There were some surprises in the first round, but the second round is where things really start to get interesting. This is where teams start to draft for need, and we start to see some reach for players that they believe have higher upside.

As always, there are a few players that slip through the cracks and go undrafted. These are usually players with high potential but low production, or players that come from non-traditional hockey markets.

As the 2021 NHL Draft wrapped up, it was time to take a look ahead to next year’s draft. The 2022 class is loaded with potential franchise players at the top, and there are a Number of players who could make an immediate impact in the NHL. In this mock draft, we’ll take a look at how the first two rounds could play out.

1) Detroit Red Wings – Owen Power, D, University of Michigan (NCAA)

Power is the consensus top prospect for the 2022 NHL Draft and it’s easy to see why. He’s an elite skater with great size (6-foot-5, 210 pounds) and he’s already showing signs of being a top-tier defenseman at the NCAA level. He’d be an instant impact player for the Red Wings and would help solidify their defense for years to come.

Grade: A+

2) Buffalo Sabres – Matthew Beniers, C, University of Michigan (NCAA)

Beniers is another top-tier prospect who is making a name for himself in the NCAA. He’s an excellent skater with great vision and hockey IQ. He has all of the tools to be a franchise center in the NHL. The Sabres would love to add him to their organization as they continue to rebuild their team.

Grade: A+

NHL Mock Draft 2022: Round 2 – Highlights

1. The NHL mock draft for 2022 is complete, and here are the highlights from round 2.
2. The first overall pick in the draft was goaltender Spencer Knight, who was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks
3. Forward Matthew Tkachuk was taken second overall by the Arizona Coyotes, and defenseman Jakob Chychrun went third to the Pittsburgh Penguins
4. In total, 30 players were drafted in the first two rounds of the NHL mock draft.
