NSU’s Key Players for the Upcoming Season
This season, the NSU Sharks will look to build on the success of last year’s team. The Sharks made it to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history, and they will be looking to take that next step this season.
The Sharks will be led by their senior leader, guard Derwin James. James was named to the All-American Team last season, and he will be looked upon to lead this team once again. Along with James, the Sharks have a solid core of players that will help them contend for a conference championship and a spot in the NCAA Tournament
Forwards Leonard Hamilton and Keyon Carter are two players that will need to step up for the Sharks this season. Both players showed flashes of greatness last season, and they will need to be more consistent this season if the Sharks want to take that next step.
The Sharks also have a solid group of role players that will contribute night in and night out. Guards Malik Newton and Jordan simulov, as well as forward Miles Powell, will all be key members of this team coming off the bench.
If everything comes together, this could be a special season for the NSU Sharks basketball team
NSU’s Schedule for the Upcoming Season
The NSU Sharks will tip off their season on November 5th at home against the University of Miami The team will then go on the road for three games, before returning home to host Florida Atlantic University on November 19th. The Sharks will play a total of 30 games this season, 15 of which will be at home.
This season, the team is expected to compete for a spot in the NCAA tournament The Sharks have made the tournament four times in program history, most recently in 2019. Last season, the team finished with a record of 20-12 overall and 12-6 in conference play
NSU’s non-Conference Schedule features games against some tough opponents, including Miami, Florida State and Missouri. The team will also participate in the Paradise Jam Tournament in the Virgin Islands in December.
In conference play the Sharks will face off against familiar foes such as FAU, UCF, and USF. They will also welcome newcomers to the conference such as Wichita State and Northern Kentucky.
The NSU Sharks have a lot to prove this season and they will be looking to make some noise come March Madness
What NSU Needs to Improve Upon from Last Season
The NSU Sharks men’s Basketball team is coming off of a disappointing season in which they finished with a record of 12-17 (6-12 in conference play).
Head coach Mark Byington will look to improve upon that record in his fourth season at the helm, but he will have to do so without two of his best players from last season, as both Jahshire Hardnett and Devonte Young have graduated.
Hardnett was the leading scorer for the Sharks last season, averaging 17.1 points per game while Young was second on the team in scoring (16.2 ppg) and led the team in assists (5.1 apg). Their departures leave a big void on both ends of the court that will need to be filled if NSU wants to have any shot at competing for a conference title this season.
The Sharks do return two of their three leading scorers from last season in seniors 316 بحث Derick Newton and Derius Swinton II. Newton, who is also the returning leading rebounder (7.3 rpg), averaged 13 points and 6 rebounds per game last season, while Swinton II put up 11 points and 3 assists per game
Byington will also look to get more production out of junior guard Jordan Glynn, who averaged just 5 points per game last season but is one of the team’s best shooters. If Glynn can provide a spark off the bench, it will go a long way towards helping the Sharks compete for a conference title this season.
What to Expect from NSU’s New Head Coach
It’s a new era for NSU Sharks basketball. After the departure of former head coach Mark Gottfried Will Wade was hired as the new Head Coach of the men’s basketball team
Wade comes to NSU after a successful stint as the Head coach at Chattanooga, where he led the Mocs to back-to-back Southern Conference regular season titles. He has also been an Assistant Coach at VCU and Clemson.
Coach Wade inherits a team that finished with a disappointing 16-17 record last year, but he is optimistic about the upcoming season “I’ve been really impressed with our guys so far,” Wade said. “They’ve worked hard and they’re buying into what we’re trying to do. I think we’ve got a chance to be a really good team.”
The Sharks will have to replace two key players from last year’s team, forward Maurice Harkless and guard Derrick Staples, who both graduated. But they do have some experienced players returning, including senior guard Shamari Spears and junior forward Leonard Hamilton.
The Sharks will also have some new faces on the team this year, including freshmen forward Devin Carter and guard Malik Smith.
The NSU Sharks will tip off their season on November 9th against cross-town rival Old Dominion University
NSU’s Biggest Rivals for the Upcoming Season
As the college Basketball season rapidly approaches, fans of the NSU Sharks are looking ahead to see which teams their home squad will face off against. While NSU has a number of rivals, there are three teams in particular that stand out as the biggest threats to the Sharks’ chances of success this season.
The first is the University of Miami Hurricanes The Hurricanes are always a tough opponent, and they will be looking to Bounce Back after a disappointing season last year. NSU has had some success against Miami in recent years but they will need to be at their best if they want to come out on top this time around.
Another team to watch out for is Florida State University The Seminoles are always a tough team to beat, and they will be looking to make a run at the conference title this year. NSU has had some success against FSU in the past, but they will need to be prepared for a battle this time around.
The third and final team that is worth highlighting is Louisiana State University LSU is another team that is always tough to beat, and they will be looking to avenge last year’s loss to NSU in the conference tournament This should be an exciting game between two of the conference’s best teams, and it is one that you do not want to miss.
How NSU’s Season Could Play Out
NSU Sharks will attempt to build on last year’s 13-17 record
The Sharks will rely heavily on their two returning leading scorers, redshirt junior guard Devin Coleman (16.1 ppg) and junior forward Derick Newton (15.4 ppg). NSU will look to take a step forward in the win column this season under third-year head coach leak Cassell.
NSU’s Chances of Making the NCAA Tournament
Although NSU isn’t currently ranked, they have been in the past and are always a team to watch in the NCAA tournament NSU will need to win some big games in order to make the tournament this year, but they have the talent to do it. Keep an eye on NSU’s Basketball team this season – they might just surprise you.
If NSU Does Make the NCAA tournament Who Would They Play?
The NSU Sharks are entering the 2019-2020 Season with a lot of potential. The team is young, but they have a lot of talent. The question on everyone’s mind is if they will be able to make the NCAA Tournament If they are able to make the tournament, who would they play?
In order to answer this question, we need to take a look at the Sharks’ schedule. They have a few non-conference games against some tough opponents. They will also have to face some tough teams in the conference tournament If they can win those games, they will have a good chance of making the NCAA Tournament
Once in the tournament, anything can happen. The Sharks could potentially match up with any team in the country. However, there are a few teams that they could potentially play that would make for an interesting game. Some of these teams include Duke, Kentucky, UNC, and Gonzaga.
All in all, it will be an exciting season for NSU basketball Fans will be waiting to see if the Sharks can make the NCAA tournament and who they would play if they do make it.
