The History of NTBA Basketball
The NTBA was founded in 1957 by Jack Tosh and James Wagner as the National Industrial Basketball Association The league was created to provide an organized entity for industrial basketball teams to compete against each other. In its early years, the NTBA was affiliated with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).
The NTBA began holding tournaments for youth basketball teams in the early 1960s. These tournaments were originally open to any team, regardless of affiliation. However, in the late 1960s, the AAU began to crack down on teams that were not affiliated with them. As a result, the NTBA became a strictly AAU-affiliated organization.
The NTBA continued to grow throughout the 1970s and 1980s, becoming one of the largest AAU-affiliated basketball organizations in the country. The organization began holding regional tournaments in addition to its National Tournament and it also began offering youth teams the opportunity to compete in international tournaments.
In recent years the NTBA has continued to grow and evolve. The organization now offers youth teams the opportunity to compete in both AAU-sanctioned and open tournaments. Additionally, the NTBA now offers programs for players of all levels, from beginners all the way up to Division I college prospects.
