Introduction

The Oak Grove Girls basketball team is back for another season and ready to take on their opponents! This year’s team is loaded with talent and promising young players so be sure to catch them in action! Here’s your guide to the season.

The Team

Oak Grove High School’s girls Basketball team is off to a great start this season. The team is currently undefeated, and they are ranked number one in the state. This year’s team is full of talented players who are committed to winning. Here’s a guide to the team so you can follow their progress this season.

The team is coached by Missy Bequette, who is in her fourth year as Head Coach at Oak Grove. Coach Bequette played college basketball at the University of Missouri and she has been coaching for 16 years. Under her leadership, the team has won two State Championships and three conference championships

The team’s leading scorer is senior guard Mia Morris, who is averaging 18 points per game Mia is a four-year starter and was named to the all-state team last year. She has committed to play basketball at the University of Kansas next year. Other Key Players include Senior forward Abby Thomas (15 ppg), Junior guard Brooklyn Freitas (13 ppg), and Sophomore forward Kennedy Wilkins (11 ppg).

The Oak Grove girls basketball team has a bright future and they are definitely a team to watch this season!

The Schedule

The Oak Grove Girls Basketball team is excited to announce their schedule for the upcoming season

The team will start their season with a Home game against rival school, Rosemont, on Friday, November 8th at 7:00 pm.

They will then travel to take on Sacred Heart on Tuesday, November 12th at 7:00 pm.

The team’s first home game of the season will be against Woodland on Friday, November 15th at 5:30 pm.

Oak Grove will wrap up their pre-season with an away game against Valley Christian on Tuesday, November 19th at 7:00 pm.

league play will begin on Friday, December 6th when the team travels to take on Del Oro at 7:00 pm.

The Roster

The Oak Grove girls basketball team is made up of student-athletes from all grade levels. This year’s team captain is senior Kaitlynne DaSilva. The other seniors on the team are Amanda Bates, Emily Borges, Tori Finn, and Nicole Gallo.

The junior class is represented by Stephanie Coleman, Nicole Gordon, Sarah Silva, and Emily Souza. The sophomores are Kelsey Fernandes, Amanda Goncalves, Rachel McCarthy, and Jessica Moreira. The freshman class has three members on the team this year: Kate McCarthy, Allison Silva, and Rebecca Tavares.

The team’s head coach is Tony DiMauro. He is assisted by Jeff Coleman and John Costa. Coach DiMauro has been coaching at Oak Grove for six years and has been the head girls basketball coach for four years.

The Coaches

The Oak Grove Girls basketball team is coached by Alexis Blanks and Raychel Harrell. Coach Alexis Blanks is in her first year as the Head Varsity Coach for the Lady Eagles. She is a graduate of North Davidson High School and Appalachian State University While attending Appalachian State she was a four-year starter on the women’s basketball team After graduation, coach Blanks spent two years as an Assistant Coach at North Davidson high school before coming to Oak Grove. Coach Raychel Harrell is in her second year as an assistant coach for the Lady Eagles. She is a graduate of South Rowan high school and Catawba College where she played basketball for four years. After graduation, Coach Harrell coached AAU Basketball for one year before coming to Oak Grove.

The Parents

As the parents of an Oak Grove basketball player you are an important part of the team. Your support and encouragement are vital to the success of the team. Here are some things you can do to be the best parent possible.

First, ensure that your daughter is getting enough rest and eating a healthy diet. Basketball is a physically demanding sport and she will need her rest to perform her best. Secondly, make sure she is attending all practices and workouts. This is where she will develop the skills and conditioning necessary to compete at a high level. Finally, support her emotionally. Cheer for her at games and help her to maintain a positive attitude even when things are not going her way.
