Introduction

The Portland State Basketball team is a NCAA Division I college basketball team representing Portland State University in the Big Sky Conference The team is currently coached by Barret Peery, who was hired on March 28, 2018.

PSU men’s basketball has made one appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2008. They defeated Dickinson State in the Opening Round before losing to Kansas in the second round.

The Coaching Staff

Hea Coach: Barret Peery
Entering his third season as the Vikings’ Head Coach Barret Peery has led Portland State to a 54-41 record, including a 27-9 mark in Big Sky play. Peery’s teams have won 20 or more games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the program joined Division I in 1996.

Portland State hasn’t seen a ton of success on the basketball court over the years, but there have been some bright spots. The team has had a handful of players who have gone on to have successful NBA careers, and many more who have had great college careers.

The Portland State basketball team finished the 2018-2019 season with an overall record of 15-16 and a conference record of 7-11. They will return to the court this fall for the 2019-2020 season

The Fans

The fans are the lifeblood of any Basketball team Without them, the players would have no one to play for. That’s why it’s so important to have a strong fan base. And that’s exactly what Portland State has.

The fans are passionate about their team and love to watch them play. They are also very vocal in their support, which can be a big help to the players on the court.

The Arena

On December 6, 1949, the very first game was played in what is now known as The Arena. It was a men’s basketball game between Portland State and Lewis & Clark College. Since then, the venue has undergone many changes. In 1970, it was renamed the Memorial Coliseum to honor soldiers who had died in World War II. In 2007, it underwent a $262 million renovation and expansion project, which added an additional level of seating and made it one of the most state-of-the-art arenas in the country. Today, The Arena is home to the Portland State men’s and women’s basketball teams as well as the Winterhawks, a minor league Hockey Team
