In order to be eligible for the NCAA tournament a team must play in a Division I conference and must have a .500 record or better against teams in that conference. The top eight teams in each conference advance to the conference tournament which is held at a neutral site. The conference tournament winner automatically earns an NCAA Tournament berth.
