The San Joaquin Valley Girls basketball team is a team to Watch This Season They are led by Coach Claire Davis, who has taken the team to new heights. The team is made up of five seniors, four juniors, and three sophomores. The seniors are captain Hannah Jenkins, point guard Brooke Muller, shooting guard Macyn McKnight, Power Forward Emily Burns, and center Destiny Bowman. The juniors are shooting guard Kaitlyn Johnson, point guard Kendall Murphy, small forward Morgan Evans, and power forward Ellie Walker. The sophomores are shooting guard Kylie Wong, small forward Kaitlyn Chang, and power forward Amy Nguyen. The team’s strengths include their experience, their athleticism, their unselfishness, and their shooting. They are a well-rounded team that is dangerous on both ends of the court.

For starters, the SJV team is unique in that they have only one senior on the squad. The rest of the team is made up of juniors and sophomores, which gives them a lot of room to grow and improve in the coming years.

Coach Jeff Bergman said that the team has a “no excuses” mentality and that they are always working hard to get better. This was evident in their recent victory over rival Fresno High School when they came from behind in the fourth quarter to win the game.

The SJV girls basketball team has been on a hot streak lately, winning their last 5 games. But how do they compare to other teams in their league/conference?
In terms of conference record, the SJV girls are currently tied for 3rd place with a 7-3 record. The top two teams in the conference are Homestead (9-1) and Cupertino (8-2), so the SJV girls still have some work to do if they want to finish in the top half of the conference.
Offensively, the SJV girls are averaging 45 points per game which ranks 4th in the conference. They re shooting 33% from the field and 25% from three-point range Their free throw percentage could be better, as they are only converting on 64% of their attempts from the Charity Stripe
Their defense is where they have really been excelling, as they are only giving up an average of 36 points per game which is 2nd best in the conference. They have been particularly good at forcing turnovers, averaging 12 steals per game, which is also 2nd best in the conference.
