SLU’s West Basketball Players

The SLU men’s basketball team has been busy this offseason, adding four new players to the roster. Here’s a quick look at the newest Billikens:

guard Jordan Goodwin
A 6-3 guard fromAlton, Illinois, Goodwin was a first-team all-state selection as a senior in High School He averaged 19.5 points, 9.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game last season.

forward Hasahn French
A 6-7 forward from Camden, New Jersey, French played his first two collegiate seasons at Hofstra before transferring to SLU. He averaged 11.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game last season.

guard Jimmy Bell Jr.
A 6-4 guard from Chicago, Bell played his first two collegiate seasons at Loyola Chicago before transferring to SLU. He averaged 8.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game last season.

forward Malik Yarborough
A 6-6 forward from Queens, New York, Yarborough played his first two collegiate seasons at Stony Brookbefore transferring to SLU. He averaged 10.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last season.

Who are these New Players?

The newest members of the SLU basketball roster are:

1. freshman guard Jordan Goodwin from Alton, Illinois

3. redshirt sophomore forward Jermaine Bishop from Brooklyn, New York
4. sophomore guard Yuri Collins from St. Louis, Missouri
5. junior forward Hasahn French from Lowell, Massachusetts

As the new Basketball season approaches, Saint Louis University fans are eager to see what the team will be like. Although last year’s team did not have the most successful season there are high hopes for the upcoming year. Part of this excitement is due to the addition of several new players to the roster. Let’s take a closer look at these fresh faces and what they might bring to the team.

How do these New Players Fit in with the Team?

The Saint Louis University Billikens men’s Basketball team has added six new players to the roster for the 2019-2020 Season

This season’s team will have a lot of new faces, as only eight players from last year’s squad are returning. This means that Head Coach Travis Ford and his staff have had to fill a lot of holes on the roster with guys who are either transfers or freshman.

The Billikens lost four starters from last year’s team, so there will be plenty of opportunity for the newcomers to step in and make an impact. Below is a breakdown of the six new players and how they fit into this year’s team.

Javonte Perkins is a 6’4” guard from East St. Louis Illinois who is originally signed with Toledo. He averaged 27 points, 11 rebounds and four assists per game as a senior in high school and was named first team all-state by the Chicago Tribune. Perkins was also ranked as the No. 9 player in Illinois by 247Sports. He seems like he will be a good fit for this SLU squad and should see significant minutes as a freshman.

Hasahn French is a 6’7” forward from Camden, New Jersey who played his first two years of college basketball at Hofstra before transferring to SLU. In his two years at Hofstra, French averaged 7.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 54 percent from the field. He will have to sit out this season due to NCAA transfer rules, but he should be a key player for the Billikens next season when he becomes eligible.

Jordan Goodwin is a 6’3” guard from Belleville, Illinois who was originally committed to Southern Illinois before signing with SLU late in the recruiting process Goodwin was named Mr. Basketball in Illinois after averaging 24 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four steals per game as a senior in high school He was also named first team all-state by both the Chicago Tribune and Associated Press. Goodwin should see significant time as a freshman and could be one of SLU’s better players right away.

Yacine Diopis a 6’11 center from Senegal who attends prep school at Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut. He is an unranked recruit whose only other offer came from Hofstra. Not much is known about Diop, but he has decent size and could develop into a solid player over time if he gets some good coaching at SLU.

Drew Edwards is a 6′ point guard from Nashville, Tennessee who spent last season playing at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Arizona where he averaged 19 points per game while shooting 41 percent from three-point range . Edwards will have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out this season due to NCAA transfer rules.. Edwards is another guy who could come in and contribute right away for SLU next season..

What is the Team’s Outlook for the Season?

As the Billikens look to continue their recent success on the court, they do so with a roster that has undergone some changes from last season.

With the graduation of three of last year’s starters, the team will have a different look in 2019-20.

Senior Ellie Welty is the only returning starter from last year. The 5-11 guard from St. Louis averaged 8.4 points and 5.4 rebounds last season and will be looked to as a leader both on and off the court.

Welty will be joined in the backcourt by classmate Kennedy Johnson, who played in all 32 games last season and averaged 2.7 points per contest.

The Billikens also return senior guards Maddie Stock and Aja Williams, as well as junior Myriah NNoah, who all saw significant playing time last season.

SLU will have some new faces in the frontcourt this season, as junior Kennedy Brown (transfer from Indiana) and freshman Nyiah Spencer (Cahokia, Ill.) are expected to see significant playing time.

Sophomore transfer Olivia Elger (Iowa State) will also be eligible to play this season after sitting out last year due to NCAA transfer rules.

The team also added two freshmen in Isabella Gage (Streator, Ill.) and Sophia Sonny (Henderson, Nev.).

How will the New Players Impact the Team’s Play?

As the Billikens get ready to tip-off the season, there are some new faces on the roster that Billiken fans will need to get to know. This season, SLU will see six new players join the team, three of which are transfers.

The do-it-all point guard from Dallas, Texas, Javonte Perkins comes to SLU as a transfer from Northwest Florida State College. Perkins was a two-time NJCAA All-American and led his team to a Panhandle conference championship last season.

Gibson Jimmerson is a 6’7″ forward who is known for his shooting ability. He averaged 16 points and eight rebounds per game during his senior year of high school and was named First Team All-State.

Carte’Are Gordon is a 6’9″ center who is known for his rebounding and shot-blocking ability. He averaged a double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds) during his senior year of high school and was named First Team All-State.

Fred Thatch Jr. is a 6’5″ guard who is known for his scoring ability. He averaged 20 points per game during his senior year of high school and was named First Team All-State.

Yuri Collins is a 6’1″ point guard who is known for his playmaking ability. He averaged eight assists per game during his senior year of high school and was named First Team All-State.

The Saint Louis Billikens have just completed their basketball season and it was a successful one. They won 28 games and made it to the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive year. But next season will be a new challenge, as the team will have to replace three Key Players who graduated.

Jordan Goodwin is a 6’3″ guard from Alton, Illinois. He’s rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN and was ranked as the #68 player in the country by 247Sports. He’s an excellent playmaker with great vision, and he should be able to contribute immediately. However, he’s not a great outside shooter, so teams will likely sag off of him on defense.

Hasan Abdullah is a 6’7″ forward from Chicago, Illinois. He was also rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN and was ranked as the #79 player in the country by 247Sports. He’s very athletic and has a high motor, which should endear him to fans quickly. He’s also displayed good range on his jump shot during his career in High School His biggest weakness is that he’s not particularly skilled with the ball in his hands, so he may struggle to create his own shot at the college level.

Yancy Gates is a 6’9″ center from Cincinnati, Ohio. Gates was originally committed to play at Xavier, but he decommitted after coach Chris Mack left for Louisville. He then committed to Saint Louis after considering offers from several other schools. Gates is a physical player who isn’t afraid to mix it up down low. However, he’s not particularly quick or agile, so he may struggle to defend faster players on the perimeter.

Zeke Moore is a 6’5″ guard from Dallas, Texas. Moore chose Saint Louis over offers from several other schools, including Baylor and Marquette. He’s an excellent shooter with good range on his Jump Shot However, he doesn’t have much experience playing against top-level competition so he may need some time to adjust to the speed of the college game.

Dwayne Killings is a 6’8″ forward from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who played his first two years of college basketball at Lackawanna College before transferring to Saint Louis prior to last season. Killings sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules but will be eligible to play this season as a junior. He’s very athletic and has good size for a small forward His biggest weakness is that he tends to be too passive on offense and doesn’t always look for his own shot enough..

Danny Pippen is a 6’9″ forward from Newburgh, New York who was originally committed to play at Hofstra before opting to play professionally in Europe instead. Pippen recently decided to return to College Basketball and chose Saint Louis over offers from several other schools.. Pippen is an excellent shooter with good range on his jump shot . His biggest weakness is that he lacks experience against top-level competition having spent the last few years playing professionally in Europe..

How will the New Players Adjust to Playing at the collegiate Level?

The Saint Louis University Billikens men’s basketball team welcomes five new players to the roster this season.

Freshmen Harrison Till and Russel Barlow will look to contribute right away, while redshirt freshman Fred Thatch Jr. and junior college transfer Jordan Goodwin will add depth and experience to the backcourt.

In the frontcourt, the Billikens will have another Junior College transfer in Hasahn French as well as redshirt junior Dwayne Booth.
