Spoon River College Baseball

The Spoon River college baseball team is a competitive NJCAA Division II baseball program located in Canton, Illinois.

Introduction

The Spoon River College (SRC) baseball team competes in the Mid-West Athletic Conference (MWAC). The team is composed of student-athletes who are enrolled at the college and play their home games at Robert Young Field, located on the Spoon River campus in Canton, Illinois.

SRC has a long tradition of success on the diamond, winning conference championships in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. The team has also qualified for the NJCAA Division II World Series five times (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002), finishing as runner-up in 1998 and 1999.

The Team

The team is made up of 20 young men who share a passion for the Game of Baseball The common goal of winning a conference championship drives the team throughout the long season. The Conference Schedule consists of 30 games, with each team playing the other nine teams in the conference once. In order to make the conference tournament a team must finish in the top four out of ten.

The Schedule

Spoon River College will open its baseball season on Feb. 9 with a pair of games against St. Charles Community College in the Appleton City Tournament The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for noon.

The Field

The Spoon River College baseball field is located on the south end of campus. The field has a gas heating system installed in the fall of 2016 that allows the field to be played on earlier in the spring than in previous years. The school also LED lights in 2016, which allows for more afternoon and evening games.

The Fans

It’s difficult to describe the feeling of sitting in the stands at a Spoon River College baseball game The fans are passionate and vocal, and they love their team. There is a sense of community that comes from being a part of the SRC fan base.

The paper has been instrumental in promoting the team and helping to get fans to the games. In addition to the newspaper, the team has also been covered by TV and radio stations in the area. This coverage has helped to raise awareness of the team and generate interest in the community.

The Tradition

Spoon River College has a long tradition of success in baseball. The team has won nine conference championships and made seven trips to the NJCAA Division II World Series Spoon River College is also a perennial power in the Midwest Region, finishing in the top four of the region rankings every year since 2002.
