UC San Diego Baseball: A Team on the Rise

UC San Diego’s Baseball Program

UC San Diego’s baseball program has seen a resurgence in recent years with the team becoming increasingly competitive in Division II play.

In 2018, the team had its best season in recent memory, finishing with a record of 33-17 overall and 19-9 in conference play The team made it to the Division II College World Series for the first time in program history, ultimately finishing in sixth place.

The team has continued to build on that success in 2019, currently sitting at 29-11 overall and 20-8 in conference play With a core group of experienced players leading the way, UC San Diego looks poised to make another run at the Division II College World Series

The Team’s History

The UC San Diego Baseball Team has a long and proud history. The team was founded in 1868, making it one of the oldest college baseball teams in the country. The team has seen many successful seasons over the years, winning the College World Series in 1998 and 1999. The team is currently coached by Mark Rix, who has been with the team since 2013. Rix has led the team to two NCAA Division II World Series appearances in his tenure.

The Team’s Success

The team’s success is due in large part to its pitching staff. The Tritons have had two first-team All-Americans and two second-team All-Americans on their pitching staff in the past four seasons.

The team’s Head Coach Eric Newman, has also been a big part of the team’s success. Newman was named the Division II National Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2016.

The Team’s Fans

The Team’s Rivalries

Rivalries are an important part of what make college baseball so special. The UC San Diego Tritons have a few rivals that they always look forward to playing against. UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly are always tough opponents, but the biggest rivalry for the Tritons is definitely against the San Diego State Aztecs. These two teams have been playing each other since the 1950s and the rivalry has only grown stronger over time.

The Tritons and Aztecs first met on the diamond in 1953, with UCSD winning 9-2. Since then, the two teams have played each other nearly every year. The series is currently tied at 82-82-1, making it one of the most evenly matched rivalries in all of college baseball The Tritons and Aztecs always play each other tough, no matter what the records are coming into the game.

The next time these two teams meet will be on March 3rd, 2020 at Torero Stadium. This will be the first time these two teams have met since 2016, so both sides will be looking to come out with a win. Make sure to come out and support your Tritons as they take on their biggest rivals!

The Team’s Schedule

The UC San Diego baseball team is on the rise, and their schedule is packed with exciting games Here are some of the highlights:

The team’s home opener is on February 15th against Concordia University

On February 22nd and 23rd, the team will take on UC Santa Barbara in a three-game series

On March 1st, the team will take on crosstown rivals San Diego State University

The Team’s Facilities

UC San Diego’s Tritons play their home games at the on-campus Triton Ballpark, which opened in 2011. The ballpark has a capacity of 2,000 spectators. The facility includes a press box, locker rooms offices, and a weight room. The playing surface is artificial turf.

In 2018, the team moved into a new on-campus facility, the Stuart Fieldhouse. The field house contains locker rooms for both the Baseball And Softball teams, as well as offices and a weight room.

The Team’s Coaching Staff

UCSD’s Baseball Team has a rich history, dating back to their founding in 1957. The team has seen many ups and downs, but they have consistently been a force to be reckoned with. After years of struggle, the team finally found success in the early 2000s under then-coach Bill Kurtz. The team won back-to-back conference championships in 2004 and 2005, and made an appearance in the 2005 College World Series

Since then, the team has continued to find success under head coach Rich Hill Coach Hill was hired in 2009, and has led the team to four more conference championships (in 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014). He has also been named Conference Coach of the Year three times (in 2010, 2013, and 2014).

The team’s Coaching Staff is one of the main reasons for their recent success. In addition to Coach Hill, the staff includes assistant coaches Eric Newman and Nick Leddy. Coach Newman joined the staff in 2011 after serving as an Assistant Coach at UC Riverside. Coach Leddy joined the staff in 2012 after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at San Diego State Both coaches have played a big role in helping UCSD’s baseball team become one of the best in the country.

The Team’s Players

The UC San Diego Baseball team is composed of talented young players from around the country. The team is led by pitcher Jake Stassi, who was recently named the WCC Pitcher of the Year. Other key players include catcher Jeffery Yamaguchi, first baseman Dillon Persinger, and outfielder Nick La Face. The team’s success this season is a testament to the talent and dedication of its players.
