University of Minnesota Duluth men’s hockey is a team on the rise. After years of toiling in the lower ranks of Division I college hockey the Bulldogs have finally broken through and are now considered one of the best teams in the country.
This season, UMD is off to a hot start, with a record of 9-2-1. They are currently ranked No. 4 in the nation, and they show no signs of slowing down.
The Bulldogs are led by a nucleus of talented young players including sophomore forwards Mattews Thompson and Jackson Cates, who are both among the leading scorers in the country. The Coaches of UMD Mens Hockey
The University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs mens Hockey Team is coached by two former NHL players Scott Sandelin and Derek Plante. Sandelin has been the Head Coach of the Bulldogs since 2000, and has led the team to four NCAA Frozen Four appearances and two NCAA National Championships Plante is in his sixth season as an Assistant Coach with the Bulldogs, and has helped the team to three Frozen Four appearances and one National Championship
Both coaches have extensive experience playing and coaching at the highest levels of hockey. Sandelin was a defenseman for 11 seasons in the NHL, playing for the New York Islanders New Jersey Devils Dallas Stars and Pittsburgh Penguins He also spent four seasons playing in Europe before retiring in 2001. Plante was a center for 12 seasons in the NHL, playing for the Buffalo Sabres Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens and Chicago Blackhawks He also won a Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2010.
The Bulldogs have been one of the most successful programs in college hockey under Sandelin and Plante, and are always contenders for the NCAA National Championship If youre looking for a team to watch this season, UMD is definitely it!

The University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs men’s Hockey Team is composed of student-athletes who attend the University of Minnesota Duluth The team competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I as a member of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). They have won six NCAA Division I championships, Ten Conference championships, and have made twenty-six NCAA tournament appearances. The Bulldogs compete in the 10,000-seat Amsoil Arena. The current head coach is Scott Sandelin and the assistant coaches are Matt Shaw and Brett Larson. Captain is senior defenseman Mikey Anderson and alternate captains are junior forwards Kobe Roth and Peter Krieger.
