Dean Smith
Dean Smith is widely regarded as one of the best Basketball Coaches of all time. He coached the UNC Tar Heels for 36 years, winning 2 NCAA National Championships and 8 Atlantic Coast conference championships He was also named NCAA Coach of the Year on 4 occasions. Dean Smith is credited with popularizing many coaching techniques that are now commonplace in the game, such as the Four Corners offense and using araising arm signal to call for a timeout.
Roy Williams
Born in Marion, North Carolina Roy Williams is a Tar Heel through and through. After playing college basketball at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill Williams began his coaching career with several High School teams in the state before returning to his alma mater as an Assistant Coach In 1988, Williams was named Head Coach of the men’s basketball team at the University of Kansas where he led the Jayhawks to four Final Fours and two national championships. In 2003, Williams returned to UNC – Chapel Hill to take over as head coach of the Tar Heels and has since led them to three more Final Fours and two more national championships. Over his career, Williams has amassed an impressive 816-216 (.790) record, making him one of the winningest coaches in NCAA history.
Bill Guthridge
Bill Guthridge is a name that may not be familiar to many college basketball fans, but he is certainly deserving of a spot on this list. Guthridge was an assistant coach under Dean Smith for 30 years, and took over as Head Coach when Smith retired in 1997. In his three years as Head coach Guthridge led the Tar Heels to two Final Fours and one National Championship He also has the highest winning percentage of any UNC head basketball coach in history.
Larry Brown
Larry Brown is widely regarded as one of the top basketball coaches of all time. He has coached at the collegiate, professional, and Olympic levels, and has won championships at all three levels. Brown is the only coach in history to win both an NCAA National Championship and an NBA Championship He is also a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame
Matt Doherty
Many UNC Basketball Fans consider Matt Doherty to be one of the top 5 Unc Basketball coaches of all time. Doherty led the Tar Heels to 3 ACC regular season titles and 1 ACC tournament title during his tenure as head coach from 2000-2003.
