In 1993, Dean Smith finally led UNC to glory, as the Tar Heels rode Derrick Phelps, Donald Williams, and George Lynch to a 77-71 win over Michigan’s “Fab Five” in the Final Four and a 77-74 victory over Kentucky in the Championship game Smith’s fourth title came in 2005, as North Carolina outlasted Illinois 75-70 despite trailing by double digits with less than five minutes to go in regulation. Roy Williams became just the second UNC Head Coach to win a National Championship in his first season when Tyler Hansbrough, Wayne Ellington, and company took down Mario Chalmers and Kansas 116-110 in overtime to end the 2007 season.
