A 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard/forward, Grimes was a four-year starter who helped the Coursers to a combined 106-12 record (.899), including a 29-3 mark this past season when Vanguard reached the Cif Southern Section Division II semifinals.

As a senior, Grimes averaged 17.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game while shooting 48.4 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from three-point range and 76.7 percent from the Free Throw Line He was named the Century league player of the Year and was an All-Cif Southern Section Division II selection.
