The Tribe’s success this season is due in large part to their senior leader, point guard Daniel Dixon. Dixon is averaging 17.3 points per game and has been a big part of the team’s offensive production. He is also a great defender, averaging 1.9 steals per game.

The Tribe will continue their quest for an NCAA Tournament berth when they take on VCU on February 28th. This will be a big test for the team, as VCU is currently ranked No. 8 in the AP poll. However, if the Tribe can continue to play at the high level they have been all season, they have a good chance of making some noise in the tournament come March Madness

The Road to the NCAA Tournament

As the college basketball season hits full swing, the William & Mary Tribe men’s Basketball team finds themselves in the thick of things. Sitting at 16-4 overall and 6-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), the team is currently in second place in Conference Standings and looking to make a push for the top spot. With only a handful of games remaining in the regular season every game is crucial as the Tribe looks to position itself for a strong showing in the conference tournament and a possible berth in the NCAA tournament

The Tribe has experienced a great deal of success over the past few seasons, including winning back-to-back CAA Championships in 2016 and 2017. The team has also won 20 or more games in each of those same seasons, something that has only been accomplished four other times in program history. With a strong core of returning players and some key additions to the roster, this year’s team is looking to add its name to that list and make a run at William & Mary’s first ever NCAA tournament appearance.

Led by senior guard Nathan Knight, who was recently named CAA Player of the Week, the Tribe has been excelling on both ends of the court. Knight is averaging 22.1 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game while shooting an impressive 60.6 percent from the field. He is joined by fellow senior Matt Milon, who is averaging 13.7 points per game and shooting 45 percent from three-point range as well as junior Bryce Barnes, who is adding 11.2 points per contest.

The Tribe will be put to the test over the next few weeks as they take on some of their toughest competition of the season. With challenging games against conference foes like Hofstra, James Madison and Delaware on tap, as well as non-conference opponents like Notre Dame and VCU, it will be a good opportunity for the team to measure where they stand heading into March Madness

So far this season, The Tribe has shown they are capable of competing with anyone on their schedule and they will look to continue that trend down the stretch as they eye another CAA Championship and a possible spot in college basketball’s biggest stage –the NCAA Tournament

The Final Four and National Championship Game

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament also known and branded as NCAA March Madness is a single-elimination tournament played each spring in the United States currently featuring 68 College Basketball teams from the Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), to determine the National Championship The tournament was created in 1939 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and was the idea of Ohio State coach Harold Olsen. Played mostly during March, it has become one of the most famous annual sporting events in the United States

The Tournament Teams include champions from 32 Division I conferences (which receive automatic bids), and 36 teams which are awarded at-large berths. These “at-large” teams are chosen by an NCAA selection committee. The 68 teams are then divided into four regions and each region plays a single-elimination tournament.

The winning team of each regional final advanced to the Final Four, a single elimination tournament whose semi-finals and final game were played on consecutive weekends. From 1957 to 1982 the regionals were generally played on campus sites; thereafter most games were assigned to preselected neutral sites, mostly major arenas such as sports stadiums.
