WPU Baseball: A Team on the Rise- The Roster
The WPU baseball team is a team on the rise, and the roster is a big part of the reason why. The team is loaded with talent, and the roster is filled with players who can contribute in a variety of ways.
The team has two of the best pitchers in the conference in senior ace Nick Burdi and junior right-hander Jake Johansen. Burdi is one of the best strikeout pitchers in the country, and he has been nearly unhittable at times this season. Johansen has been almost as good as Burdi, and he gives the team another reliable arm at the top of the rotation.
The bullpen is also a strength of this team, with a number of different options who can get the job done. Senior closer Ian Gibaut has been excellent in save situations, and he has a number of other relievers who can come in and get key outs when needed.
The offense is anchored by a trio of All-Conference performers in seniors first baseman/outfielder Alex Zoeller and second baseman/shortstop Mikey Reynolds, and junior third baseman/outfielder Austin Lange. Zoeller is one of the best power hitters in the conference, and he has been clutch all season long Reynolds is one of the best contact hitters in the conference, and he always seems to come up with big hits when needed. Lange is one of the most underrated players in the conference, and he has been a key contributor all season long.
The bench also features a Number of players who can contribute, including freshmen outfielders Kaleb Ort and Brady Strothman, junior infielder/outfielder Tanner WIlson, sophomore catcher Blake Edwards, and senior utility player Jordan Byrd. Ort and Strothman have both seen significant time in the outfield this season, and they have both made positive contributions.
