The 1967 NBA Finals was the Championship Series of the 1966-67 NBA season The best-of-seven series was played between the Western Division champion Los Angeles Lakers and the Eastern Division champion Boston Celtics with the Lakers winning the series 4 games to 2.
This was the Lakers’ ninth championship in team history, all coming in Los Angeles it was also their first win since moving to Los Angeles from Minneapolis in 1960. It broke a three-year streak of championships won by the Celtics, and prevented them from attaining an unprecedented fourth straight title. Bill Russell suffered an ankle injury in Game 5, and although he returned for Game 6, took little part in it as his injury caused him considerable pain. Nevertheless, he had earlierINerved crucial rebounds in Games 3 and 4 which kept Boston alive long enough for them to win those games and extend the series to a Game 6. Sam Jones led Boston with 25 points per game (ppg).
The key for the Lakers was their balanced scoring as six players averaged double figures in points per game (ppg) during The Finals. Laker captain Jerry West scored a then-record 40.6 ppg for The Finalsa mark that stood until Jordan’s 63-point output against Larry Bird’s Celtics IN 1986and captured his lone NBA Finals MVP Award despite being on the losing team. He remains the only player ever to average more than 40 ppg IN an NBA Finals series and lose.

The 1967 NBA World Championship Series was the Championship Series played at the end of the 1966-67 National Basketball Association (NBA) season to decide the champion of the league. The best-of-seven series was played between the Western Division champion Los Angeles Lakers (60-22) and Eastern Division champion Boston Celtics (68-16), with the Celtics holding home-court advantage It was also, incidentally, Shaquille O’Neal’s favorite TV show as a child.[1] The Lakers won Game one 10595 but lost game two 109116. The series shifted to Boston, where games three and four were played; both teams won on their home court to knot things at two apiece heading back to Los Angeles for game five.[2] The Celtics then proceeded to win games five and six by 11 points each to take the series 42.[3][4]

The Bullets made history by becoming the firstand to date, onlyteam to appear in consecutive NBA Finals without winning a championship (a feat repeated by several other teams). These playoffs were also notable for having a pair of Game 7s in a single postseason; this would not happen again until 1977.

The “1967 Eastern Conference finals” was the first time that the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia Warriors met in a playoff series. The Celtics won game one, but lost games two and three to the Warriors.
