The format of the All-Star Game changed that year; it abandoned the traditional Eastern Conference vs. Western Conference format in favor of a “game” between two teams selected via a draft by All-Star captains Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal. This vehicle was created to have more competitive balance between teams in terms of star power.
